Re: WeatherFax...

Thanks Boat Alexandra

Using Size 0.2, computation is fast, but the weatherchart quality is poor.
Using Size 0.5, computation is slower, but the pic is better

Re: WeatherFax...

well .78 is the maximum. Try cropping the top before processing for full size and much faster process.

Hello,

For users of French language, here is a link to a page with an explanation of how the plugin WeatherFax:

Explanations currently concern the weather fax containing a Mercator map. They will be developed and completed for the other later.

How to superimpose weatherfax on Ocpn?

'Am running Ubuntu 12.04.

Just downloaded a wxfax .tif file and can view it quite nicely using the WeatherFax plugin. However, I can't figure out how to superimpose the tif file onto Ocpn.

How is this accomplish this?

Re: WeatherFax...

PDA1, if you are using a mercator projection, set that setting, (or polar if it is polar) then click through and set the Coordinates and Lat/Long properly. If you have set those properly the weatherfax will overlay onto charts at the proper location.

Re: WeatherFax...

PDA1: Please refer to Weatherfax Plugin documentation Weatherfax Plugin | Official OpenCPN Homepage which goes into more detail about use.

Also here is Google Translate of Gilletaron's website for Opencpn Plugin which should also help.

Boat_Alexandra: Yes, I agree your plugin needs a companion video, perhaps later.

Rick,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. We have been offshore and had scant internet coverage lately.

I use a fax terminal in SailMail to decode the wxfax into .tiff so I do not have sound files that I can send your way.

I have been using WeatherFax 0.6 with faxes from Boston and the UK and it has been working like a charm. Thanks for all the work that you have done on this. If I can figure out how to record a sound file from my SSB I will give it a go if you still need a .wav file.

Lydon, Sean has done the programming with considerable skill. Use of fax terminal in Sailmail to decode sounds like a good idea. I would still like to get some recorded wav files so that others can run the file and test and learn.

Thanks.
Rick

Re: WeatherFax...

I went ahead and mostly completed the next piece of this puzzle. Building in HF schedules to alarm and automatically grab the audio to decode. The update is now in git.

Still to complete:
1. test and verify the schedules and correct errors.
2. support coordinates built into the schedule. I need other people to provide most of these as I cannot pick up most of the stations.
3. support automatic control of radios automatically like the usb rtlsdr dongles.
4. More options and features? suggestions?

Re: WeatherFax...

Which radios do you plan to support for automatic control. Icom m-710, Icom m-720, Icom m-802, etc ?

Re: WeatherFax...

I would like to support these radios but I do not have one. I have the rtlsdr dongles which can be hacked to support HF mode only. Supporting radio control is more of a long term goal, but if someone sent me a radio I could probably support it right away.
