Re: WeatherFax ...

If you have recently updated wxfax_pi you should be able to quickly update the XML files by selecting "Retrieve > Update Data Sources" (on of Pavel's nice additions).

If this command is not available you probably need to remove the plugin and reinstall a current version '

Re: WeatherFax ...

I have used Nohal's WeatherFax-pi to do the conversion from polar to mercator to display this weather fax in OpenCpn 4.82. The RTL-SDR V3 dongle was used as a receiver, controlled by SDR# with the Direct Q Sampling setting to receive HF from Northwood UK on 4610khz (suitably adjusted), piped via Virtual Audio Cable to Fldigi decoder. Tuning & configuration of SDR# & Fldigi is eased using the waterfall windows of each & saving the most convenient setups. The antenna was clipped to the backstay and this was tuned with an old surplus ATU. Having had at times to shelter in remote anchorages with only HF reception, I reckon this plugin will be very valuable in such situations in future.

Unfortunately as yet I can not get weatherfax_pi-1.8.002a-win32.exe to install, while weatherfax_pi-1.7.001a-nohal-data-update-win32.exe installs without difficulty.

I have not been able to get either the wefax or rtlsdr plugins to control the SDR dongle (even for AIS with rtlsdr). I would like to independently bring up the window with the little tuning opening in it on the wefax plugin; it seems to appear sometimes on a scheduled time, so pre-tuning is difficult. I would also like to understand the configuration codes and how to set them in the preferences. It might be possible to set them to control SDR# & FLdigi.

Re: WeatherFax ...

Congratulations, That's the most recent report of it working in Windows in a long time. I guess you've got to have good signals, I had no success.

Can't install "weatherfax_pi-1.8.002a-win32.exe"
What version of Opencpn?

Thanks for the report using RTLSDR. You may receive some questions from others including me.

Inspect the XML Files to learn, use something like Notepad++

Sean will have more suggestions.

I've tried to install on both 4.4 & 4.82 to no avail, even after uninstalling all others with associated files & folders.

Thanks for the suggestion to check the xml's - I'll have a look tomorrow.

What should we imagine under "it does not install" exactly?

Adding to Pavel.. This morning I downloaded weatherfax_pi1.8.002a and installed into v4.4.0 and v4.8.2 and it works fine. You must be far more clear & specific if you wish help. Also submit your log and ini files. Step by step description. Screenshots help.

Re: WeatherFax ...

"It does not install" means that when I click on the downloaded weatherfax_pi1.8.002a exe file nothing happens, even when run as administrator or using Win 10 compatibility troubleshooting. No installation window appears as with other versions, so there is no screenshot to show. Nohal's version is fine for now. Neither version of OpenCPN was open during plugin installation efforts, and I don't see the failed events listed in either log or ini files.
When O is opened after Nohal's vers is installed, the log file records its initializing as follows:

6:50:05 PM: PlugInManager: Loading PlugIn: E:\Program Files\OpenCPN\plugins\weatherfax_pi.dll
6:50:05 PM: E:\Program Files\OpenCPN\plugins\weatherfax_pi.dll
API Version detected: 113
PlugIn Version detected: 107

So as to have a stable vers to rely on I keep vers 4.8.2 and 4.4 are on different drives, which may be a problem. I'll get around to rationalizing the relevant file structure in time.

Downloaded the installer, works fine. Are you sure the file is not damaged and you are not running some wanna-be-smart antivirus solution silently killing it?

Thanks Nohal. I downloaded another new instance of the file, used Properties to Unblock it, changed the Security Permissions, & it has now installed on both versions.

Many thanks!

Re: WeatherFax ...

Malruen I am still using Norton Security and we have arranged a bit of a detante, when downloading plugins sometime Norton tries to be over zealous and quaranteen the plugin for "Reputation" reasons (no reputation, not many uses ) rather than active viruses. In those instances I have to override Norton.

When I compile locally Norton is more forgiving.

Out of curiosity, are you using Windows Defender? It would help to know in case others have a similar problem.

Glad you got it working.
