Which Windows Version is Optimum for OpenCPN 2.4.x (beta)

Which version of Windows ist most recommended.

Want to use it on MacBook Pro/Parallels until MAC Version is matured.

I tried Windows 7 and Windows XP. From battery life point of view seems to be no difference in a short (non navigational) test.

Any suggestions?

Michael,
whichever you have a license for is the best. I'm running XP on the netbook I take on board and am happy, but almost all the testing and development do on 7 and am happy, no difference in stability. Don't know how the drivers work in Parallels, but if you don't have any problematic hardware, you should be fine with both. Battery-wise I don't think there's a chance for much difference in the emulated environment. Having a Mac I would probably at least test the Mac builds from Pat...

Thanks for the reply. I used a Mac Version 2.3.1 which had some severe bugs while route planning.

What Version did you mean by "Pat"?

RAM cost doesn't really matter to me, it's 8GB which is comfortable to run Mac OS X and Windows 7 or Linux side-by-side. The QuadCore is still idling a lot ;-)

PatG is currently working on improving OpenCPN on Mac, the last version he published is at https://github.com/patg/OpenCPN/downloads
For sure not as stable as Windows or Linux, but probably will be better than 2.3.1
I have no idea what's the state of things, but can see quite some activity in his codebase on github, so some further improvements are probably coming.

It all depends on what you want to do with it, XP should be sufficient for most tasks, 7 will make the tasks look better lol

IMHO it is less a question of the operating system rather than how well it is configured.
Windows (all Versions) tends to run a lot of unnecessary processes and many settings are not quite optimal by default.

XP is getting old (which may cause some difficulties with drivers etc. in the near future) even though it is still very suitable for OCPN.

So in the end there might not be the one answer to your question ...!
