Re: Win10 updates overheat Old Laptop?

rg,

See reply #27 on page one of the link I just posted:

Here is a solution that will suit whoever has W7. This only applies if you have not already accepted W10.

The updates giving you trouble are
2952664 and 3035583

Search your updates and delete both. At the same time convert your update system to 100% manual. Both updates will return but at least you can ignore them.

I may have wrote: Since XP Win10 is the best for me. I'm not arguing for a common opinion. I'm just forwarding my own experiences.

Re: Win10 updates overheat Old Laptop?

Switch to Linux Mint. Its an easy install and an easy transition. I had the same problem with my laptop (5 years old) Its a core i7 but as soon as I loaded Win 10 on it. it started burning through the battery, fans were always running and the battery life was reduced by a factor of 4!! Switching to linux resolved all of that with 1 simple install. there is a bit of a learning curve with installing apps but that only lasts a couple of weeks.

Re: Win10 updates overheat Old Laptop?

Some more great suggestions, and there is no doubt Linux is in my future.

This morning I booted and Cortana ran all its startup routines and promptly hung the computer. Investigation determined that previous CPU settings were reset to CPU max 100% when I picked a "Balanced Power option". I went into the power settings for that Power option and dropped them to 90% and the computer ran all day with not hangups.

Nevertheless, I am going to have to open her up and clean it out soon.

The next option is to remove my virtual machine which has Win10 again and 4.99 compile and dev environment, which I don't really want to do.

The final step would be to reconfigure with Linux and try to find an alternative way to run my CAD system which is big and hungry. It would probably take 4 days or more to really get it all working.

The last alternative would be purchase, spend 4 days of setup (with more of a future), and send this to Sean.
