Win7 updates and opencop

I am having trouble and was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or has a fix. Open worked great last year this season I started it up and it wouldn't connect with the GPS.After trying several things I did a restore back to last year and everything worked fine then I got on the web and later it wouldn't talk to the GPS again. This time I looked and saw that I had received several win7 updates. I did a restore again and everything worked again. Also having trouble preventing updates but that's another problem.

Re: Win7 updates and opencop

The Windows updates change the GPS driver so that it has "sensor" status. This is incompatible with OpenCPN and you have to change the driver back to a Virtual COM Port driver. Look on your GPS maker's site or trawl Google for one that will work with your device.

BTW keep a copy so the next time MS wipes out your driver you can restore it!

Just a minute, there are other ways and it helps to know about them.
