Re: Windows PlugIns for OpenCPN 4.99?

VDR_pi does not work as far as I can tell. It runs gpx files as if they were html rather than serial nmea. Something is mssing in the parser.

We really need this to work in order to test many many plugins! It allows us to run tests without actually being totally connected to the boat instruments.

This needs to be fixed first. Please see previous #35 post.

Also it would be nice if the top menu bar X would stop the VDR player.
And it would be even better if there was a "zoom into" button which would center and zoom into the activity when a gpx is being played.

Rick...

I do not understand what you are trying to do here. VDR plugin captures and replays the NMEA data stream, it has absolutely nothing to do with GPX files.

Absolutely right Pavel. Sorry. I was picking files out of my gpx directory rather than my nmea directory. It's working now, using the correct file format.

Re: Windows PlugIns for OpenCPN 4.99?

Rick...

May I (again) try to ask you to adjust your workflow a little?

- Slow down
- Do not do 100 things at the same time and try to remember or learn what the thing you are testing actually is supposed to do
- Open issues, one per problem, in the respective bugtrackers (In case of my plugins on Github, please)
- Do not post links to links to links to other threads, it is virtually impossible to follow, for me at least
- Post the things only once, it is really not necessary to read the same in three different threads and have it linked from 4 others.

Thanks

Pavel

Re: Windows PlugIns for OpenCPN 4.99?

Ok Pavel, I will post problems only to your github repository.
This confirms that I find that

- VDR_pi works (when using the right files - nmea files)!
- Dashboard_pi works.
- Tactics_pi works.

Ah ah. Now the ov5 Plugins page
Launcher_pi

downloads an ov50 plugin.

Thanks.

Re: Windows PlugIns for OpenCPN 4.99?

Yes, I had to call Windows Support and get a technician to show me how to install windows10 into the virtualbox so that my license was used. It is very cramped with 2gb of memory and makes my laptop run slowly in the host computer. I think I will remove that entire setup, keep the virtualbox and install linux and O 4.99. Then just do windows on the host.

I will try separate ocpn source trees on the host.

It is simple enough to keep vs2013 and vs2017 running on one system, with separate wxWidgets versions and OCPN source trees. Then, just start and use vs2013 for legacy work, and vs2017 for new stuff. There will be minimal interference between the two versions.

Hope this helps
Dave

Rick...

Is there still any reason not to use Appveyor binaries (Which are built from every single commit) instead of this endless quest?

Yes, Pavel. There is no reason not to use appveyor. It is simple, direct and very useful. It might be possible to avoid having a dev environment, but perhaps not for plugins.

Re: Windows PlugIns for OpenCPN 4.99?

ICON discussion.

As you may know I have redesigned some of the plugin icons to match the new V5 toolbar style.

In doing so I have been following a few rules in order that the icons have a consistent style and are meaningful.

Those rules are;
1. Stick to the 3 shades of grey.
2. Review the original icon design and modify if;
2a. It can't easily be converted to 3 shades of grey. EG Tactics.
2b. There is an alternative icon with a closely similar meaning in common use. EG Debugger.
2c. If the old icon does not match international chart symbols or notation. EG OpenDraw Dead Reckoning icon.

All well and good BUT....

I've hit a snag with this approach and I'd appreciate some input.

Some plugins have common features. An example is the Dead Reckoning PI and the OpenDraw PI which also features a dead reckoning mode.

If I was to follow the rules above, then these two plugins could have the same icon on the toolbar (depending on ODs mode).

It's not obvious to me at the moment how that should be solved and I'd appreciate ideas.

Cheers,

John

Not for plugins why? Exactly the same applies to them. The ones not yet being built on Appveyor simply need to start. Trying to make your machine a builder over and over again is certainly not a solution to this.

The solution is:
- Take this file: https://github.com/nohal/iacfleet_pi...r/appveyor.yml
- Copy it to the other plugin source, replacing every occurrence of the term "iacfleet_pi" with the name of the plugin package name as specified on a line similar to https://github.com/nohal/iacfleet_pi...eLists.txt#L12)
- Enable the project build on Appveyor

The above takes approximately 30 seconds to do and everything is set, for the whole OpenCPN 5 lifetime.
