Re: You must be joking!

Even when zoomed out showing the base map of the world, there should be outlines of the charts that are loaded displayed.

That works if the check box for map outlines is selected. I cannot remember if that is the default.

Something attempted to load as there was a yellow progress bar loading but the map does not show. I only get the low resolution world map when zoomed in.
Close and then re-start OpenCPN.

Re: You must be joking!

Yes, installed, removed app, even rebooted my nexus7 several times in all possible combinations.

This is so difficult because there seems to be no help section to reference. It tends to not apply.

I am looking at the wrench-chart-chart files page and an empty directories box.
First, can anyone define what a directory is as opposed to a file specifically what the difference is on a nexus7.
Walk me through a map install on a nexus7 starting with the chart files page. I am not getting specifically what to exactly add to the directories list. I am thinking I am not putting the right information in the directories box.Can you tell me specifically how you did it for
a specific map so I can follow your steps?
If I can just get one map loaded and working I will be on my way.

I am assuming you have downloaded you files to a folder (aka a directory). If you have a sd card for Your Nexus I would suggest that you move the folder into a folder on the sd card. Call that folder "OpenCPN_charts".

After that is done, open OepnCPN and use the tools (wrench)> charts> add directory button to browse for the OpenCPN_charts folder on the sd card. Click on the folder to select and then click on OK. That folder will appear in the Directories list.

Force a rebuild. Your charts should be available.

When downloading other charts place them in the OpenCPN_charts folder, and do another rebuild.

The first line kicks me out because I do not have another computer. I bought the app on play. Should this whole thing work or is it necessary to have an additional computer?

When I go to the charts>add directory button there is no option to browse. That's where I get stuck.

Re: You must be joking!

This may not help at all but I use Memory Map for off roading and I think it is similar to OpenCPM, it shows detailed maps and plots where you are etc.... I had a heck of a job getting it to work on Android (worked perfectly first time on iPhone!!!) I had to move the map files to the correct folder within the App, by loading them on an SD card then copying them to a download folder within several other folders within the App.... maybe worth a look around the App with a file explorer App to see if you can find any folder named "download" or "maps" etc...

Good luck, it really annoys me when someone writes these things and presumes we all have a masters degree in computer programming.... !!!

I can find that OK via open can but not via file explorer to copy charts into it.

Re: You must be joking!

Let's try this.
Does anyone know of a nexus7 that is properly operating opencpn?
Did they need a separate computer interface to load charts?
Anyone?

This may be helpful with getting your charts copied:

>ch
i just did it. I have the CM93 charts on a memory stick, connected that to my tablet (Sony Z2), copied the folder with the charts I wanted to the default chart location which on my tablet is: Internal storage>Android>data>org.opencpn>files.

then on the chart directory (wrench>charts) selected them. It was about 500mb of charts and took a while to build the database, but it is working ok. My problem now is there is no grib plugin on my version.
