Zoom makes annoying sound

When I'm zooming in or out in OpenCPN, the buttons work fine and silently, the mouse scroll wheel works fine and silently, however when I use the "fine zoom" command of "Alt +" or "Alt -" the computer emits a very annoying and loud "DUNK!" sound from the speakers.

Anyone else experience this? Is there any way to make it stop short of turning sound off?

It's not just OpenCPN that does it, it's a common Windows problem. (google "alt beep" for a couple of million hits discussing it). What you are hearing is the standard Windows warning/error beep.



It's to do with the way that Windows uses the Alt key to activate menus before passing on the keypress to the application. If there is no Matching menu "hotkey", it beeps as a warning.


It happens in a lot of other programs that I use as well.



If you are OK with not hearing beeps at other times, you can go into "Control Panel - Sound - Sounds" and change the "Program Events - Default Beep" to "(None)"
