General Info: ASTREA 42: Aftermarket Fabrication Keel & Rudders

Good day,

Our Astrea 42 was involved in an accident and need to have both rudders and one keel replaced and one repaired. We are hoping to get this completed in time to send the boat back to the Caribbean after November 1st. However, ordering from FP may not work well with this timetable.

Anyone know of any resources to have these fabricated our sourced from an aftermarket supplier. Looking for any recommendations.

I don't think you can find an aftermarket similar parts. Rudders and keels are typically fully customized per boat model.

You may want to contact New England Boatworks in Portsmouth, RI for custom fabrication.

Given that the Astrea is still in production, FP will be manufacturing keels and rudders so you should be able to get them quickly. I would go direct to FP in France for price and delivery. Cannot imagine a 3rd party could do this quicker.

A third party manufacture would require a pattern for the keel where it goes into the female keel box, for which you will need to remove the male keel stub intact. You will have to remove that anyway along with the remains of the rudders and assess any damage to the hull. Again FP can advise on the removal and assembly procedure for both.
