Bahia 46 escape hatch

Hello

I am looking to replace the escape hatches of my boat.
I think it would be neat to have these in working order..

I've tried measuring the hatch and I think it is the
Ocean hatch 50 by lewmar..

Flanged or flat base ?

thank you !

Re: Bahia 46 escape hatch

Just curious as to what the problem is with the existing escape hatches?

Re: Bahia 46 escape hatch

Both jammed shut and one is leaking water through a seal on the handle .

Mostly I was hoping to price a spare ( just in case) , and to get ideas on how to proceed with the fix.
I see you had some issues with yours ... Any tips ?

Appreciate it !

Re: Bahia 46 escape hatch

Are you sure that your escape hatches are not made by Goiot?
These are what I see on all the FP models I have been on.

Re: Bahia 46 escape hatch

Yes Cotemar is close.

The hatches are Goiot:

http://www.goiot.com/pdf/p30-31-32.pdf Scroll to escape hatch.

and they do have spare parts:

http://www.goiot.com/pdf/p33-34.pdf

Ours were seized shut when we bought the boat. The handles would not turn and the hinges were seized. A lot WD40 under the handles, over several days with a wrench slowly freed everything up. Also with the hinges working them back and forth until I could manage them. The hatches also appeared to be slightly racked and the locking part on the handle would rub against the frame where it turned so we got the grinder and ground off a little of the edge to enable it to close and turn freely. A bit hard to explain. I can take photo if necessary.

Also in one handle a key in the keyway was missing so when we got the inside to turn the outside did not.

We did wait until we hauled out to do these repairs as we were worried that it may be a major and we weren't able to fix them satisfactorily.

There was also slight seepage water damage through one of the attachment screws but it has not appeared to continue to do this since we owned the boat so we leave it for the time being.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Lisa

PB Blaster is your friend. Soak the handles, there is a hole on the inside handle shank where you can see the threads on the screws. Spray it for 2-3 days. Then you'll be able to either remove the screws and fix the o-ring on the outside or simply tighten the it up to stop the leak.

Goiot/Amoit are in receivership and nothing is available from what I understand. Tough situation trying to repair anything with either name on it.

Try Budget Marine, they may stock some parts.

Re: Bahia 46 escape hatch

Guys,thank you all!

You pretty much saved me a fortune in time and effort --

Will go down and see if I can gently free hinges/handles, wish me luck.

Re: Bahia 46 escape hatch

Hi guys,
any news on that? What did happen to your hatches?
I want to replace mine, too.
Preferably looking for new Lagoon Style hatches
with a hammer next to it - instead of hinges
