Re: Mainsail Head Car and Track Problem

Lucky,
No problems noted since the latest repair with the rod bearings. I need to pull the top slide, though, and look at it again since it's been several months since I checked it.

Zazen,
Sending you an e-mail about your island, subject line: Belize Boat for Belize Island.

Re: Mainsail Head Car and Track Problem

DY,

Hope all is well. We are at the point of needing to replace the head car - for wear on edges that sound similar to your problem. We also have the torlon bars that are worn. I know your experience was many moons ago, but I'd like to find out some details of your end solution.

Our head car is almost 8" long, and not matched by any currently available replacement car. The most common available from US Spar/Rig-Rite is 6 1/8" long. I'm concerned that is not long enough to spread the stress a from the head of the sail.

Your last post indicated your received a head car from the factory with the correct or same length as the original. Do you remember if this was longer than 7".

Thanks

Re: Mainsail Head Car and Track Problem

Our Athena main has webbing with a as ring sewn in. Tihe halyard attached to the ring not the top car so there should be minimal torsion and moment loads on the top car. Attaching the halyard to the car would seem to be a bad idea

Re: Mainsail Head Car and Track Problem

Yes, we do the same with our halyard connected to the ring at the head of the sail.

Thanks
