Ordering Pet Fencing, Need Safety Line Length

Hi All,

FootLoose, our 2016 Evolution, is in Key West and I'm home 180 miles away working for The man (5 more weeks!). I would like to order the pet fencing to go over the safety lines from Sailrite but I don't have the required measurements. If it's convenient for anyone, could you please measure from the forward seat to the stairs and then one of the stairway gaps across the scoops for me? Basically anywhere a 10lb dog could slide through. Much appreciated.

Mike

Hi there!

37 feet from the stern gate to the front of the bow pulpit.
50 inches across the stern gate.

What colour are you going to choose? We had white last time and it lasted 4 years in the UK climate. At that point I could rip it with my hands. Might try black next time to see if it lasts longer. It was quite stretchy because of the square pattern so easy to make the right height. Needed quite a lot of string to tie up to the top rail and the deck, over 4 times the yacht length plus some.

Hadn't really thought about it yet. Have only seen white and would have thought that would last longer being more UV reflecting.

Just FYI, there is white dyneema netting that you can order to your dimensions. I ordered some for my next boat. I do not remember the website but you should be able to find it with Google search.

We used black netting from these guys

https://www.gourock.com/netting_types.html

I like the black, it’s less optically intrusive, it lasts far longer in the sun than white, it doesn’t ever look dirty.

What did you do for the gates?

That's a bit more tricky, we gave up and removed the pelican hooks in the life lines we had. 4 years later after our Pug passed away I removed the netting. If you have posts for the gates you could still do it with a vertical break on one side.

I used the lifeline for the top support, then I used black three strand nylon for the bottom of the netting.

The gates were made using the three strand to border them and the opening bottom corner of the gate was held in place with a snap hook.

Ordering Pet Fencing, Need Safety Line Length

Hi There. We’re installing netting now in our Lagoon 450 in Puerto Rico.

We were turned onto ondecksports.com for individually UV treated stranded net.

WAY cheaper than the ‘marine’ product and our friends have used it successfully in the tropics for years (less than $200 for entire perimeter)

We got black, best color I think. Hides well.

Also, this company cut my specific sizes; I.e. 3’ x 46’ and so on. The net came with 3 strand already through the perimeter too.

And Sailrite has great videos to show the correct Harken shackle to attach securely to your lifeline-snapshackle.

Not best photo, but barely visible at night in lower left corner. PM me for completed photo in a few if desired.

Good luck [emoji106]Click image for larger version

Re: Ordering Pet Fencing, Need Safety Line Length

We ultimately went with the white Sailrite product. Just personal preference. Found some 3M plastic outdoor rated adhesive backed clips at CVS of all places which really helped around the gates.
