Re: Owners

We have just placed our order for a 4 cabin Helia. I had a sea trial in Istanbul and was delighted with the sailing performance and the outdoor areas. We had 12-13 people on board and it didn't seem crowded.

Only two features annoyed me. I was/am very concerned about the sharp edges, particularly as we are putting the boat out for charter (Tortola, Summer 2013) and I expect the veneer on the corners to peel away in a few months and this is not what you expect on a $600,000 boat. Still no luck getting FP to change to a rounded edge. Has anyone else talked to them about this?

The other thing which seems very odd is that the backrest on the seat on the cabin top is only a few inches high. This means it provides zero back support, but again FP seem unwilling to take customer feedback and make a simple change to one piece of stainless steel tubing and make the boat way better. Looks like I will have to do this myself post delivery. Again, pretty poor when you consider the immense amount of money you pay.

Re: Owners

NSfooter, big congrats on your new boat!!

Would love to hear some more specs on your boat, when will your boat be launched and what company is going to manage your boat in Tortola.

Congrats again, hope to meet you anchored somewhere in the BVI's.

Re: Owners

Thanks, onthehook.

We will be putting her in with Horizon, but not yet sure what exact date. She will be a 4 cabin version with upgraded to 2000W inverter/charger, the full nav package, freezer, upgraded Furlex genoa furler, flexiteek decking, auto reef on reef 1, triple clutches, all electric heads, bose sound system and the one we are most excited about - underwater lights.

I had planned on taking her across the pond, but it would have left no time for a holiday with the family at the other end, so we have to come up with plan B. Are you taking yours across yourself?

Congratulations!

I'm not certain but I think that means we will hull nr. 10 (last week march).

Re: Owners

Just and FYI, Bruce's boat hull number 2, Wide Ranger is now in St Thomas and available for bareboat charter with CYOA Yacht Charters. They will be down to day for a week on board. The boat sailed down from Annapolis about a week ago. Spent a good part of the last week pulling the boat together from the trip.

Wide Ranger was shipped to Annapolis instead of sailing to make the boat show. Bay yachts did the commissioning after the show so the delivery was the shakedown. We spent the week taking care of the inevitable minor issues that come with that. The boat faired pretty well during the delivery. It is going to be a great charter platform. The owners are out now sailing around St John as I type this. By the way for the record I am the maintenance manager for CYOA.

Thanks for that Jay, I read it as she was sailed there and you spent the week putting her back together lol. Always good to get clarification thats how all the nonsense talk starts especially when it comes to cats.

Re: Owners

Sigh... More photos of our boat @ Paris Boat show curtesy of Oliver 66. Its like self imposed torture. We will see it in Dusseldorf, but thought I would post the photos as the first real perspective of the Owners hull.

Re: Owners

CaptainJay, would it be possible to have the delivery captain for Wide Ranger elaborate on his experiences during the delivery trip with the Helia 44. Many Helia owners including myself have never sailed the boat in the variety of conditions that he encountered.
I would really enjoy hearing about performance under sail, sail plans used at different points of sail, handling characteristics and any tips he can pass on to future owners.
Extend my thanks to the delivery captain in advance.
