Re: Owner's Initial Feedback on Hull #2 - Cuvée

I too am interested to hear how things are progressing and if the charter season is shaping up the way you'd hoped.

Re: Owner's Initial Feedback on Hull #2 - Cuvée

I am willing to guess that this is one of the most informative FP Saba 50 threads out there. Please keep this updated the wife and I are extremely interest in the Saba 50 and Helia 44. Any charter results after a short season would be great to see.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

This is a great thread. Thanks for your openness and willingness to share. Very much appreciated. Great comparative analysis' of, well, pretty much all the 44-50 foot cats that a lot of people are comparing themselves. Thanks again.

Hi Edharge - PM me. Currently sailing in the BVI and roaming in the internet. Will be back home in a few weeks and can better respond then.

Hi, curious how long you did the split season? The boat should be about done with the charter program too. How did everything work out? Looking at entering with Atlantic or dream next year in similar FP boat. Thanks!!

Re: Owner's Initial Feedback on Hull #2 - Cuvée

We did the split charter bases for only 1 year. The key business benefit was to get the back to the dealer (ACY) to handle some warranty issues. It also gave my family the chance to extensively explore the Chesapeake.

On the other hand our Saba 50 was on the very high end of the size and price range for the Chesapeake and did not do many charters that 1st summer. Unlike the Virgin Islands, we did not see many 4 couples interested in doing 1 week charters together on the Chesapeake. Smaller 38' monohulls docked beside us were frequently out on Chesapeake charters.

Repositioning between bases will also cost you at least 2 weeks in prep and delivery time each way (plus cost of professional skipper if needed). Heading north from VI to Chesapeake in late Apr / early May is still busy VI charter season (plus you lose June & July VI charters) and heading south in November also cuts into VI charter season that starts in late-Oct. Overall a net lose of charters plus added costs, though the ocean sailing experience I gained was worth it (at least for 1 season).

Cuvée has been very well and proactively maintained by CYOA Yacht Charters since 2015. She will continue in their fleet for one more winter season until Spring 2021.
