Recommended Maintenance Schedule

I have not been able to find one for my newly aquired athena. The manual for the Volvo penta 2020s does not have it, and I have found nohting on the net for a maintenance schedule for the entire boat. Anybody have one they would care to share? or be able to point me in the right direction?

Even one for a comparable boat would be a good proxy...

Thanks!

Re: Recommended Maintenance Schedule ?

Here's a quick start:

Change engine/transmission oil every 200 hours ...
Check battery water levels every 60 days ...
Re-pack winches every year ...
Clean and spray blocks and sail slides every few months ...
Check for chafe on sheets/halyards every few months ...
Scrub bottom and clean thru-hulls every few months ...
Check running lights, etc. before departing anywhere ...
Reverse anchor chain every year ...

Every boat is a bit different, but those strike me as minimal maintenance requirements ... I'm sure others have ideas ...

First of all, why would you do that? Do the links wear unevenly?

And what if you don't have an all chain rode? Would you undue the splice and redo it?

Check tension on your belts once a month.

Re: Recommended Maintenance Schedule ?

Check all Rigging by going up-
change oil /fuel/filter about every 150 hours,
lube throttle cables 1 x year
change sail drive o- rings and seals with each gear oil change- at haul out-
water pump impeller 1 x a year and whole pump about 3 years max
belts every other year
check steering cable yearly
silicone spray sliding doors weekly
olive oil in the heads weekly
Hoses need looked at along with the clamps 2-3 times a year- replace when needed-
Valves need adjusting every 1000 hours
tolets need rebuilding every few years,
fresh water pumps are good for 3 or 4 years

Re: Recommended Maintenance Schedule ?

If you follow this link and input 2020 into type then search and go to the bottom it lists a few models of the 2020. Click on the correct one and it will take you to a lot of good info. I'm in the same boat with a MD17. I've been learning as I go. Engine database - Engine database : Volvo Penta

Re: Recommended Maintenance Schedule ?

agree with throttle cables etc ... I use a fabulous product, T-9, to lubricate/protect engine and moving parts ...

on chain, depending on bottom, the galvanizing will wear off over time. i have 100m of chain, so i flip it every year. If chain to rope, just keep an eye on the splice and the chain galvanizing
