Salina 48 diesel tank leaking somewhere...

We have a Salina 48 leaking diesel when tank is 3/4 to full and full. Also, we do not know if it is a coincidence, but water managed to go into the tank two times over the course of the years and when the boat was left at the dock for the raining season.

Anyone out there with a Salina having the same issues?
It is extremely annoying not being able to fill the tank completely, not to mentions having to clean diesel.

Other pirates with tips also welcome to participate and help with this mysterious happening.

Don’t have your boat, however I would assume you have pin holes in the tank at a certain level…. Aluminum has that reputation after many years. Regarding water getting in, have you changed the gasket on the filler cap? Besides there I could not imagine where water would get in.
Good luck!

In the picture you supplied it shows the white straps that FP have used to secure fuel thanks in a a lot of models over the years. The stainless buckle on these belts have been causing problems with alloy tanks when the buckle is in direct contact with the alluminium. Wedge a piece of insertion rubber between the buckle and the alloy tank. I have a picture of the corrosive effect when the two are left to argue, but not sure how to post it.

not an FP, however we are in the process of changing our stainless steel tank which started developing pin holes at the bottom. very messy

going to a custom made plastic tank = no corrosion !

cheers,

I am curious where the tank is on a Salina? Where is this opening, I do not remember it.
