Lipari 41: Steering repair

Recently my helm mechanism failed and I was wondering if anyone has experience changing out the helm and cable. I finally sourced a replacement Morse Command 290 helm and purchased the 17 ft telefax cable per FP's instructions, now comes the hard part of installing the new parts. The helm is very simple and straight forward, but the cable looks as if it is going to be a major pain in the rear. Can anyone suggest which interior panels that need to be removed to feed the cable from helm to engine compartment?

High Temp... my steering failed last fall after a rough sail from Beaufort NC to Charleston. Zimmerman Marine took care of the problem and sourced a mechanical steering helm and cable replacement from SeaStar which was almost exactly like the Morse Command 290. I did not do the work nor was I there to observe but the replacement is working well. I believe the old cable was used to snake the new cable into place. I can try to find out more details if you give me specific questions that you might still have.
