hahaha, but not funny. Yes one day I checked out a new nieghbor in the slip over and thought, pretty darned low freeboard! And the next morning all you saw was his mast sticking up!

I had no idea it was sinking..perhaps I should have known.

We have a 2010 lipari and it is the same bow down, we have no weight in the forward cockpits at all,

Re: Why is our bow much deeper in the water than stern?

now that we have multiple similar comments on this particular cat, was the line painted to compensate when the rear cockpit was filled with people partying?
I’m a mono guy, but everytime I’ve been on a cat has been for a party. Lot’s of extra weight aft.

Could a true (not North Atlantic Party Loadline) painted waterline make the cat look overloaded in a crowded, socially active anchorage?

Just musing about the boot top skewness.

Perhaps because many boats are not designed to be totally level.
Check cockpit drains, generally you will have a SLIGHT slope towards them. Similarly, decks normally slope to shed water. Sadly it is not a set allowance, so the spirit level on the sole is a good guide, then allow that very small slope to drain.
Some builders actually mark the hull by a small groove in the gel coat.

Re: Why is our bow much deeper in the water than stern?

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
Especially thanks for the comments from Lipari owners.

Now I am reassured that it is not a problem with the boat hull.

I did extensive measurements today. Results are:
1) the decorative stripe is not level. It is 7cm lower on the bow than on stern. I measured from the rub rail and also from the side windows.
2) Yes, there is a plastic mark at the decorative stripe maybe for projecting the intended waterline
3) Our boat is 13cm deeper at the bow related to stern (8cm vs 21cm). Minus the 7cm from (1) we are only 6cm out of level. That is acceptable. We have 25m more chain than original, have 60kg AGM less in the engine rooms (our LiFePo is under the couch).

Re: Why is our bow much deeper in the water than stern?

If the current trim effects sailing characteristics, you might want to add correcting ballast. It's fairly common practice. Redistribution of weight is another. It's also fairly common to adjust waterline and boot top.

A sail plan shows the waterline as a horizontal line and you can get designed measurements off it. There are usually 10 stations for measurements. Measure up to the deck edge from those points.

Additional chain would certainly have a negative impact on trim. Tank volumes another. Are both hulls down by the same amount? Get a couple of people to stand in various locations to see if the boat levels out. Use an inclinometer both fore and aft and athwartships.

Putting the other 160 kg of diesel in your tank will probably lower the stern a bit too

I bet it’s faster in light air slightly bow down if it keeps transoms from immersing

Re: Why is our bow much deeper in the water than stern?

Where are your water and fuel tanks and how full are they?

My boat is also bow down and I think they basically "missed" during the design stage. I'm sure its fairly complicated to calc the way a boat will float, especially with all the variables of load and equipment placement after launching. Is better when the fuel tanks (under aft bunks) are full.

I did find that if I put 12-15 people in the cockpit it floats with the boot top level.

We met this season a few Liparis, but none were so out of level.

Our watertank is almost empty, fuel tank 30%.
From your earlier comment, would fill water and fuel tanks 50% then see how it sits. Some boats are "designed" to sit level when partially of fully loaded

If I remember my sailing dynamics properly, the head sail tends to lift the bow up under sail. Maybe your boat sails "level", but sits slightly bow down otherwise.

Rather than speculate, why not contact FP and ask them the question??

Re: Why is our bow much deeper in the water than stern?

Usually we try to travel with 50% water (250l) and fuel tank almost full (300l). Now we are in the wintering marina in the Med.

We will soon invite for one of these earlier mentioned catamaran parties and all guests have to play ballast

And yes, I will give it a try to ask Fountaine Pajot. Until now they were not very helpful with issues 2nd hand owners have (p.e. Goiot escape hatches recall)

Re: Why is our bow much deeper in the water than stern?

My cat's bow fluctuates depending upon how full my water tanks are. Empty to full is about 4" difference.

My 2011 FP Orana is also a bit low on the bows in relation to the stripe and bottom paint.
