34’ Horstman Catamaran

Asking $45,000 USD

OVERVIEW:
A fantastic family cruising sailboat for sale! If you are thinking about cruising for the first time, or are looking for an upgrade in space, this could be the boat for you. My wife and I are currently finishing up a one-year sailing trip (from Wisconsin to the tropics – still underway). Unfortunately, we need to go back out West to continue our careers, and decided it’s better to sell the boat to someone that will use it and love it as we do, as opposed to letting it sit on the hard for years before our next opportunity to travel with it.

This catamaran has all the basics for a live-aboard lifestyle but is also great for a shorter weekend or summer sailing trips if that’s what you are looking for. It is in great working order with a beautiful wood interior and all the necessary amenities that make cruising comfortable and fun. It’s a rock solid wood/fiberglass build, though any boat of its age requires maintenance, so a buyer would benefit from some background in handy-work to keep things ship-shape. There are both new and older components on the boat. We are practical folks, so we fix things as we can before deciding to buy new. See the detailed list below of components/specs to get an idea. We welcome a buyer/broker to commission a marine survey but have held off doing one recently ourselves since we know the boat so well inside and out after restoring it this past summer, and having sailed on it as a kid with my family, so no surprises left.

DETAILS:
Size and Space:
-34' length, 17.5' beam, 3.5’ draft (on rudders, hulls 2.5’), 48' at top of mast antennae (clears Okeechobee)
-2 twin berths, 1 full-sized master berth, all separate rooms (great for a family with two kids, sleeps 4 comfortably, 6 reasonably well, and could sleep 8 with a table conversion
-cockpit with seating for 8 and center table-two bow nets for lounging, and tons of deck space overall
-8 ft standing room in hulls
-4.5 ft headroom in central bridge where 6/8 person table resides -kitchen with 2 burner propane stove, ample counter space and storage (capacity for 3 months of dry food for 4 people) -head and shower (on-demand propane hot water heater)

Build:
-Ed Horstman design (TRI-STAR CAT 34 http://www.edhorstmanmultihulldesign...lans/cat34.php )
-Wood stingers, with laminated wood ply (has great curves), and then fiberglass exterior
-built in mid '80s; restored in the late '90s before my parents took my sister and I on a 15-month Great Loop trip, including Bahamas ( http://www.calumetdreams.com/ ) ; then restored again in 2015 for my wife and I's current 1-year trip from Wisconsin to tropics

- 2-part polyurethane topside paint, Brightside on hulls, and Trinidad SR bottom paint that has 2 more years on it if in water, currently zero growth after 6 months
-varnished wood interior trim/floors

Engine and Speed:
-Yamaha 9.9hp four-stroke outboard, 1999, high thrust model, gets 12 mpg at 5 knots, 8 mpg at 6 knots -6 knots is top speed with engine, but we've hit 12 under sail and cruised at 10 (expect 7-8 knots under sail-only with a 15-20 knot wind off beam)

Rigging and Anchors:
-mainsail w/ cover
-foresails: spinnaker, genoa, jib, storm jib
-3 metal anchors with rode and chain: CQR, Danforth, hook'n'bar
-3-part sea anchor w/ line and chain
-drogue

Electrical:
-all operating at 12v, with 3 inverters (up to 1000w) for additional AC needs
-two 12v 125ah deep cycle AGM batteries, new in 2015, should last 10 years
-300w of solar w/ charge controller and realtime usage/production digital display
-10amp shore charger
-5amp solid state 12v fridge/cooler
-AC ice maker
-depth gauge
-Raytheon autopilot
-custom mount and charging station for smart device navigation/GPS system
-12v and USB charging ports throughout the boat for phones/tablets/computers
-cockpit stereo system (aux input)
-interior stereo system (aux/Bluetooth/radio/iPod)
-interior high-efficiency LEDs)
*so far energy needs and production/storage have been well matched on the trip, we have only had to run the engine once for charging, and that was after 4 days on the hook, with full cloud cover, and with all-day fridge and computer use

Water and Plumbing:
-two 30 gallon water tanks, one sink per hull
-one 15 gallon shower tank w/ on-demand propane hot water heater
-15 gallon holding tank w/ macerator pump for offshore discharge
-manual head

Safety:
-Bilge pumps, automatic (one per hull)
-VHF radios, one mounted, one handheld
-mast-top and rear VHF antennae
-Coast Guard compliant fire extinguishing and signaling devices
-EPIRB
-cockpit mounted compass

Tender included:
-12' PortaBote (handles 4 passengers and gear well in waves/chop)
-Evinrude 4hp two-cycle engine
*boat folds up well into the size of a surfboard and fits great mounted on the stern, it's completely out of the way and off the deck when not in use

Custom Trailer available:
-2-axle steel trailer built for the boat in 1999
-available for purchase if desired, useful for backyard repairs, currently stored in WI
-collapsible to allow non-wide-load transport when empty

How much rot is there? What keeps the FG attached to the plywood hull and decks/cabin?

No rot, there was a ~10% of boat before we restored it, but we ripped it all out and replaced the wood. The fb is epoxied to the wood using a dry cloth application, West System (exterior only for fb)
