50ft+ Crowther design Cat sailboat 3ft draft

Crowther seems to be one of the few that has a 3ft draft in a Cat that size.
I want to get around on the shallow waters of Florida ICW and islands in Florida and maybe Bahamas aswell.
I like the fact the Crowthers have the 3ft draft in a 50ft plus size boat.
Its one of the only ones I know of. I think I saw one design that had kickup
rudders and daggers but that wasn't a Crowther but it had less drafts with all those up.
Im looking 50ft plus but don't want much draft. Crowther uses a short keel
design on the ones I seen but not many for sale here in USA.
Im in Florida.

Re: 50ft+ Crowther design Cat sailboat 3ft draft

We get all over that area with 5 1/2 ft draft. We may not anchor as close to the beach as Cats do, but we see a lot of BIG Cats inshore from us LOL so there must be some advantage to 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 ft draft. I would think most all of the large Cats will get around where ya want to go !!

Most cats have a similar draught, try again.

I would guess you could forget doing the Florida ICW in a Crowther 50 as the mast would be to tall for the bridges. There was a Crowther 54 for sale in Southwinds magazine for a good price.

I didn't fill that post out very well, did I?

1993 (Crowther's death) and earlier Catana are Crowther boats.

After, the chantier Catana involved Christophe Barreau as designer. Although they claim Crowther heritage, the newer boats are quite different

A little smaller, but a Crowther boat nonetheless. Yeah, she's in Greece, but you will have a hard go finding older Catana on this side the pond. The only other one I know of is in Mexico, that is, on the Pacific side (it's a 38 IIRC)

All of the Outremers are shallow draft. The 55 is only 30". Try that Brazapi 51 in California. It's on the other thread. Also there is a nice super fast Crowther 48 in Nova Scotia.
