55 Ft. Twin Diesel Trawler

A GREAT CRUISER, DIVE BOAT, B&B OR LIVEABOARD YACHT!!
WE ENCOURAGE ALL OFFERS!!
We purchased her in 2002 and traveled the Great Lakes around Canada and then in 2011 headed south to Florida, Cuba and Grand Cayman, where we stayed for one year, and back to Florida. Health issues are making it reluctantly necessary to leave our beloved vessel, which has been home and shown us many beautiful places.
She is a proven cruiser, live Aboard yacht, or could be easily converted to an overnight dive vessel or bed and breakfast.
Yacht History
Heinz Niedling designed and built this vessel, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, for himself and family in 1973 -1974. The second owner used it mostly as a dock condo. We are the third owners, and we have thoroughly enjoyed traveling and living aboard for over 12 years.

Accommodations
Starting forward is the forward stateroom which is large enough to double as an office and has a double berth. There is plenty of room to add another berth. There is ample storage and book cases on the starboard side and an ensuite head to port. There is a large closet which also has access to the electrical wires and hydraulics for the helm. Moving aft and up a few steps is the Main Salon, which is very comfortable and has large windows to see the view, and includes the helm station. Further aft is the U shaped Galley. Going aft and down a few steps brings you into the very large Master stateroom with large storage closets and ensuite head with separate shower.
Current Price: $76,000 However any and all offers will be considered.

Will do. Sent a message with our email address. Please respond with yours so I can attach pics.
There are no corrosion issues at present. We have the boat checked monthly by a diver to stay on top of the condition of the zincs etc.
Thanks for looking.

I am also interested. Would like to know if it is a seaworthy trawler? What is fuel consumption at cruising speed, and what is cruising speed? please respond with your email.

I have some land in the Ozarks of NW Arkansas to trade for a boat or sell to buy one. Would you like to know more about it? Good location and value!

Thanks

Re: 55 Ft. Twin Diesel Trawler

My husband, Dave Bowman, posted the ad for our boat. Unfortunately, he died suddenly on Nov. 7. I must sell the boat as quickly as possible. I am currently in Mexico. The boat is in Palmetto Florida and being handled by a broker. Please contact Mike Fauser at Whiteaker Yacht Sales. He can answer your questions and show you the boat at your convenience. You can google Whiteaker Yacht Sales for contact info.

Wink Re: 55 Ft. Twin Diesel Trawler

I contacted the broker. It seemed like a great bargain. He told me of the death of one of the owners. As has been expressed by others, I join in extending my sympathies. The unfortunate news also brought a concern. I purchased a boat that was in Canadian registry in 2006. The folks in Canada were incredibly nice and extremely helpful. For that reason, I thought I should mention that anyone interested in this boat might want to make a quick call to the vessel documentation center in Canada. The broker "assumed" rules of transfer would be the same for both here and under Canadian law. He acknowledged he had not checked for any issues.

The death of one of the owners raises a concern as to transfer of ownership. A quick call could save someone a lot of concern. Probably no issues and, as I said, the folks in Canada are extremely helpful, but I would recommend asking, not assuming, as to what rights, if any, have passed to the survivor. At the same time they can check for any outstanding liens. I checked online and it showed a lien, but I wouldn't want to rely on that information since the broker advised there were no liens. Again, a quick phone call may enable someone to get a real bargain on this boat.

When I talked to the broker, the surviving owner was in Mexico. Didn't say if that was a permanent or temporary situation. Might cause a little delay but again, probably no issues of significant concern.

Best of luck in the sale efforts, it looks like a nice boat for a liveaboard.

Re: 55 Ft. Twin Diesel Trawler

It's a Canadian registered boat for sale in Florida. Isn't that illegal without putting a "Not for sale to US citizens etc" disclaimer in the ad by the yacht broker? I think the boat is supposed to have a sign too. This is why I asked if duty had been paid in my earlier post. If so then all is OK. I think.

Re: 55 Ft. Twin Diesel Trawler

Not to the best of my knowledge. When you see a broker asterisk a listing by stating it is not for sale in U.S. waters that does communicate that the seller is not willing to pay to have the boat imported into the US for sale.

A purchaser of the 55 ft trawler may not intend to keep the boat in US waters. If the purchaser is Canadian they could keep the Canadian registration or form a Canadian corporation to keep Canadian registration. Perhaps Florida law requires a broker to note in a listing that a boat has not been imported into the US, but I'm not aware of such a requirement.

However, I do think your question emphasizes the importance of obtaining information from other than a broker or seller when purchasing a boat. The broker represents the seller, so information is truly only received from one source. I would be more concerned about the existence of liens or claims by heirs than import tax, but then we aren't considering purchase. The broker advised the owners had smoked in and kept pets on the boat. For us, that's a deal-breaker. Allergy issues. But for smokers who have pets, I would take a look at this boat. It's just not for us.
