Great deal! A world cruising sailboat here. Just needs some TLC. These normally go for around $100,000.

Re: 60 foot sailboat ketch super cheap - $4900

ofawkiknowthatboat..omg it was a naybore for long time---man who owned it died in 2004 or 2005 and his kids were in school and marines and such and
NAME OF BOAT WAS HARD ROCK--- ferro cement...lol

is samson 55. not 60. rough only interior, not finished and engine hasnt functioned in forever and it overheated badly then.... no maintenance.
some marines tried to fix it up but i think, by this ad, they failed....
fullon picnic table in galley...... huge open interior....leaked like sieve in rain....
the man sailed it down from washing ton state before 1995 sometime, and never moved it once he got a mooring at coronado bridge. is too bad.....

the good thing is that, if anyone bought it--interior is only roughed in, so is do able as a major project--not so much to get out of the boat before rebuild, which the old man was planning before he had heart problems.
he could not get 30k usd for it in 2003. they actually donot sell for that much as they are difficult to insure , being ferro cement and all...kit boats..

looks like the huge solar panel isnt there anymore--was on boomkin....hull doesnt leak at all, just topsides....

my ericson is still in that mooring field.

Re: 60 foot sailboat ketch super cheap - $4900

Watersofdiego, Dont ruin your credibility by promoting a floating wreck like this. Most derelict ferro boats end up given away or sold as this one for dirt cheep. They are in no way worth 100K. If you follow boat prices on Craigslist and Ebay, you will see many ferro boats,( and other materiels) that go for almost nothing. A very few are a real bargain, but most are junk that will cost you your life savings and leave your dreams broken. If you are very experienced in yachting, you might find an unpolished gem, but if you are new to the game be very ,very careful of what you jump into. 2 Cents worth of advice. _____Grant.

What a floating pile of crap.

The best thing someone could do for that boat is yank the batteries, drain the fuel and oil, grab the cushions, and snag any remaining obvious plastic.

Tow it to one of the Navy's nearby gunnery ranges in deep water, and scuttle her.

Re: 60 foot sailboat ketch super cheap - $4900

this boat is only roughed in inside. rh--do you know roughed in and what that means????? it means skimpy stuff to rid boat if in order to either rebuild or ditch.
the roughed in interior is a good start for either removal of everything or rebuilding on those frames iff they are still rot free. it also means any rot is easily seen.

i didnt meet the kids who were doing the work on hard rock---i dont even know if they kept the name--which is appropriate fro that boat.

. the hull is intact with minimal hull to deck flaking-- no water ingress from hull last i saw her inside,
batteries were toast before the kids got the boat--i know there was activity in cleaning and prep work.
this boat, after some good hard work COULD possibly actually cruise coastally until the person who bought it and gutted it and re built it was finished with the huge amount of work needed to fix it.
there is a guy at jerrys wharf who is a cement boat freak----let him know about it--it is about the same size has his old ferro he rode into the beach at san ignacio years ago..might be interested or know of someone who may be...
4900 is a good price fro a hull and deck, even with some deck leaks.

when i first saw hard rock, she actually looked decent and pretty. all she needs to look pretty again is some time in a yard to clean that cement hull and paint and fix rudder and whatnot. despite the topside leaks, she may have fewer leaks than a hans christian in monsoonal rains.

If they were paying $4900 it wouldn't be a good deal. However is fool enough, is assuming a huge liability. Especially in CA, it would cost a ton to dispose of this boat legally.

Re: 60 foot sailboat ketch super cheap - $4900

The liability on something like that is absurd. If you have $5K, buy a smaller boat:

1967 Ericson Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

Buying a 50'-60' ferro boat that's shot out? You could put $50K into that boat easy and you'd still have an ugly broken down pos.

If you have a bunch of money, buy a big boat if you like. If you don't have a lot of money, buy a smaller boat that's more simple.

Re: 60 foot sailboat ketch super cheap - $4900

There is a ferro Samson 38 I have been/ still doing work on locally. I have discussed a number if times with the owner he should cut his losses and buy a different boat. If a ferro boat is mint it is worth 1/2 the same glass or metal boat. If its a disaster it costs to dispose of it and not worth even considering.

A friend of ours got a similar thing and is using it as a house of sorts. It is cheaper than buying or renting a condo, if you are handy with wood, tools, and can outfit the interior by yourself. I like his house, and it is docked in a marina.

what barny sed---as long as the hull is not taking water the boat is viable for some usage... house is awesome idea as it is HUGE inside.

The best thing to do with a boat like that is sink it on a shallow reef so we can dive on it.

Why would one want to dive upon a boat underwater that one would not want to visit whilst floating?

For me, a wreck dive object needs to have some attribute beyond mere submersion!

Cheers,

Jim
