60ft 1924/2011 CE NICHOLSON KETCH - HURRICA-V

Gatsby's yacht.

This vessel has been described as one of the finest restorations in the world, with no expense spared in the build at Australia's best reputation boatyard, with design and project management by architect owner. She was stripped to a bare shell, plank repairs and damaged frames replaced, a new tuck, every bronze keel and hull bolt was replaced and all new plank roves. A photo record of every phase of the works is available. While restored, many subtle (and some not subtle such as gaff to bermudan rig and tackle systems now highfield levers + winches), have been made to make her easy to sail and comfortable to live with as a family yacht.

Hurrica has an interesting history being requisitioned by the government in WW2 for Air Sea Rescue at Milne Bay under the ultimate command of Douglass McCarthur. From naval records she had machine guns at the bow, each side of cockpit and at the stern, and a compliment of depth charges.

The level of detail is for example, all loaded fittings such as bronze chainplates, which characteristically can have casting voids, were billit tested to guarantee tensile strength and then exrayed for casting voids.
New hollow spars by Collars UK, masthead led tricolour Bow thruster, 115hp Perkins + feathering prop, headsail furlers, main/mizzen catch bags, electric winches, full instrumentation, radar, satphone, autopilot plotter, hf + vhf radios, TV microwave and even washing machine.
See web www.hurrica-v.com Price negotiable but not cheap.
