A Catamaran

We had a deal fall through on an Athena 38 which suited our needs. So I'm posting on here to see if anybody else has something for sale that may suit us.

We have done a fair bit of research and at the moment our budget can just about buy boats like the Edel 43, the Athena 38, and the Dean 380.

Either way, depending on location and what state the boat is in, our max Budget is £98k, so please don't offer your boat to me at £105k because i cant afford it!

We may have missed a few boats, so a run down of things we are after are.

4 double cabins
2 heads
high bridge deck clearance
reasonable turn of speed (180nm a day in trades)
wide beam (around 6m mark)
under 40ft preferred, but not essential.

With our budget we are limited i know, but it can still be done.

We have money ready to go (no loans required) and if the right boat came along we are willing to travel (our base is Gibraltar).

Feel free to PM me if you have something to offer.

P.S No offence, but we don't want a Prout.

Re: A Catamaran

Let me guess...vessel had issues and owner would not adjust price for his share of repair/replacement costs. I know I have run into this issue several times...guess they are just following the Barnum & Bailey philosophy, "A sucker born every minute".

I would also say part of the problem is the budget... 98k£ doesn't buy a lot of cat... It does buy quite a fair amount of monohull. I personally would much rather live/cruise a monohull in that price range than a cat... Just my 2 cents...

Have you looked on yachtworld.com? See several that fit the price and size range listed there. Here's one

Yes, all over yacht world. There are a couple on there that interest us, but after initial contact, no joy.

We never got to a survey stage on the last one, there was issues with vat and the broker tried to sell me a boat illegally. We could never agree on the contract.

I agree, the budget is low, but that's the budget. It's a choice of a 50ft mono or a 40ft cat, our choice is the cat, when you want to go around the world the cat is always going to win for us.

And there are cats that suit us (granted, not many) out there within our price range. You just need to know where to look!

Just to add on then, we are still looking for a cat!

@OP

Yes Cats make great cruising boats, but that does you no good if you never leave the docks.

If the boat of your dreams wont fit into the reality of your budget then buy one that does and go! This also leaves more funds in the cruising kitty.

There are lots of great older monos out there too. I only paid US$35K for my first cruising boat and she took me on some great adventures. Its really not about the boat!

Just so everybody knows (as this thread is starting to drift somewhat) we started to live the dream with a 38ft mono, we got to Gib and realised we need a cat. We have been cruising and living on board for a few years now and we know what we need.

I can assure you we do leave the dock, and the cruising kitty is in place. We just sold the mono and now want the cat.

The budget is small but It can be done. The deal that fell through was for 90k, a 98 Athena, new engines, new rigging, new sails. Just a shame we could not agree contracts, but that was more the broker than the owner.

So if we can get the thread back on track as per the title I would much appreciate it!

As my first post stated, if you know of anything that may suit our needs please pm me.

Cheers in advance

Re: A Catamaran

I doubt you are going to make regular 180nm days on an athena in the trades, especially when loaded for cruising. Maybe 120-140 average is more reaslistic.

Re: A Catamaran

Hanak,
I never mentioned your cat at all, i said an athena, but realistically no small cat that is loaded for cruising is going to make regular 180nm days.

Hanak

Unfortunately she is a couple of foot to big for us. She sounds good though!
