svTrance,

Love your "snowball" kitty.

Noelex, a contributor here, has for sale a desirable alu boat. His and Seaworthy Lass's new boat is under construction in Holland. Check out the Bestevaer 49 thread.

Thanks for the Pics, looks like a very good, well thought out space, and the door looks like a reasable way to avoid the curse of drop boards.

I forgot to mention that the boat also has a keel tank that holds about 60 gallons of diesel. This tank is currently not in use, but can easily be re-commissioned to greatly improve motor range. All three fuel tanks have inspection plates for easy access to the interior and all were cleaned in 2012.

s/v Trance,

Still hoping for you that someone comes along who will appreciate your boat's virtues, and come up with the cash.....

On the issue of aluminum boats for sale, have you been following noelex and Seaworthy Lass's thread on the Besteavear49ST? They have a larger-than-Trance alloy boat for sale. I believe it is a one-off. If you look at the Besteavear thread, they have a link to the one for sale.

Re: Aluminum - Lavranos 11.5m Fast Cruiser, $139,000

Hello Ann,

Trance has attracted quite some interest, but nothing final yet.

Yes, I have followed the Bestevaer thread with great interest. Great discussion on design and I love the construction pictures. K&M is an excellent builder and I also really like their new 45 Pure.

I saw the boat for sale and she is a beauty and may fit the bill. However, I am holding off until Trance sells. Don't want to fall in love and end up with two boats.

Re: Aluminum - Lavranos 11.5m Fast Cruiser, $139,000

Hi there,
Nice looking boat. Do you know the year she was built and when she sailed from South Africa?
I recall seeing one of these in cape town around the late 90's (I think), the boat was called SUSAN II. Maybe she was the original boat commissioned to Angelo Lavranos.

Re: Aluminum - Lavranos 11.5m Fast Cruiser, $139,000

Hello Joe,

Thanks for the compliment. I believe you spotted Trance's sister ship, the Susan II. Also built by the Jacobs Brothers, but a bit earlier than our boat (1988-89, I believe). Many years ago, I emailed with the then owner of Susan II who renamed her Follower Too. However, I don't know if that boat ever belonged to Angelo Lavranos. He states on his website that the original version of this design has 10 ocean crossings to her credit. To my knowledge, only two boats of this design were built, so he must be referring to the Susan II.

Our boat was built in 1998 and her first name was Wings. Her first owners were South African and they sailed her to Brazil and the US East coast, but we are not sure when. It must have been sometime between 1998 and 2006. We purchased her in 2011.

Is your boat also named Wings?

Re: Aluminum - Lavranos 11.5m Fast Cruiser, $139,000

Hi SVTrance,

OK, so it is a sistership to Susan II. Great looking boats, probably sail quite well too. Lavranos is a great designer, I've had a couple of boats from his board.

Don't recall having seen Wings, at the time (1998-2001) I owned a Lavranos 56 footer.

No, my boat is not named Wings :-))

Good luck with the sale. From the thread it looks like you are looking for a similar look in a larger boat, that's not 'easy' to find. Here is a 'somewhat' similar boat, but with centreboard (like the OVNIs, etc), also built in South Africa (Durban) - For sale : G-Wind industries Aluminium One off, Sailing Monohull Used, 552 - A&C Yacht Brokers : Buy or sell your yacht in the Caribbean

cheers,
Joe

Re: Aluminum - Lavranos 11.5m Fast Cruiser, $139,000

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the link, we actually know that boat and befriended the owner during our Caribbean cruise. It's a small world.

Yes, Trance sails wonderfully, especially upwind. Her relatively flat bottom and deep keel definitely contribute to that.

Good to hear you also think highly of Mr. Lavranos. He sure designs some beautiful and rugged boats.

Cheers.
