Re: ATN Topclimber

Thanks again to Roverhi for his excellent input and for clearing up the static line question. It's good to know that no matter how carefully you post, there is always someone to set you straight. Disengenious?; oh my!The up side of all this is; I have brought a product to the readers attention that is truly a boon to boat management, and realized the value of an item I already have. I'm dropping out of this thread that I started and wish you all a safe ascent and descent. Fair Winds, JLS

Re: ATN Topclimber

Your thread caused me to note the product as we've been looking for a safe method, 'tis impossible for us to have bought yours from here where our boat is BUT we are in Amsterdam on monday for other reasons and have arranged with Franz to sell us one so i thank Jon for his Thread...

Cheers

Re: ATN Topclimber

I've spec'ed this out and it isn't that much cheaper (nay, probably a bit more expensive) if you buy it as mountain climbing equipment.

Good Petzl (or similar) harness: $70+
Ascenders: $75-$100 each (you'll need 2)
Foot straps (you could build these yourself, but still): $15-30 each
Assorted carabiners: $10-20 each

On the flip side, you can buy most of these things at REI -- which means you can buy the gear, test it out to make sure you like it, and then return it pretty much at any time. Which is a nice piece of insurance, if you ask me.
