Raymarine X5 is probably the most common. About 1300. If you are reasonably handy you can do it yourself. I'm finishing an install on my 35.

Re: Autopilot

Thank for the reply I will look into that model luckily I can pretty much do anything on the boat it would kill me to have to pay a boatyard to install one for me.

Re: Autopilot

Okay. I like this thread, but I also need an autopilot. I have a hydraulic system on a 1977 Columbia 32 footer (don't ask why) and I already have the hydraulic pump to run it. My Columbia is 14,000 pounds, so what I want is one that I can install myself. I don't need it to do much, but I would like to set it to stay the course while I run to the head. I single hand so it would be great.

I have already tried to install two systems I bought on e-bay without success. Maybe it was the system, or me. So simplicity would be great.

Thanks ahead of time.

I put a garmin ghp12 in last year. It was not hard to hook up/setup. It will drive either my hydraulic octopus drive or the autohelm linear drive. I would think other manufacturers are not that different. You will probably need a rudder position sensor if your mis matching drives.
