Re: Dickinson Chesapeake Diesel Heater

How old is the heater? Is it fully operational, no problems? Does this come with a fan in the base below the burner? (I had an Arctic Dickinson heater and that feature was really necessary)? Any other parts such as stack vent? Why are you selling it?

Re: Dickinson Chesapeake Diesel Heater

Thanks for your interest in the heater. We bought this heater used and were told that it is fully functional. I do not have the stack to go with it. The dimensions of the heater body are 27" tall x 7" wide and it is 9" wide at the bottom where the metering valve is. This unit does not have a fan. We decided to install a forced air unit so this unit needs a new home! If you would like more photos please feel free to send me your email. Thanks.

Re: Dickinson Chesapeake Diesel Heater

Thanks for the info. This is an older and no longer manufactured heater and I don't know much about it.

Is the opening access to the burner fitted with a glass window or with a thin mica window?

The window is mica. The door follows the curvature of the burning pot.

Re: Dickinson Chesapeake Diesel Heater

Ok. Thanks for the info. It's a good deal for someone, but I'm going to pass for the moment.

I was planning to be in 32043 in a couple of weeks or so, so pickup would have been easy. I'll let you know if I rethink the deal.

Re: Dickinson Chesapeake Diesel Heater

I have one of these. The unit has not been manufactured and 35 years. They change their design which uses a three inch or larger flu. The Chesapeake is designed with a 2 inch flue. And according to the manufacturer this was driven by the Chesapeake was not as clean with the 2 inch flue as the newer units with the 3 inch or larger flus. That being said those with the Chesapeake seem to be happy. One just has to deal with the difficulty of finding the stainless steel exhaust pieces to complete the system. Another thing I noticed. I bought mine in the last year for around the same price and it had never been removed from its original packaging. They mechanical float is made out of pot aluminum and it had crazed badly. By this I mean it had cracked so significant that I can see daylight. I bought some stock aluminum and just had the body machine and seems to be working just fine. Hope this helps.
