Re: downwind pole

OD is 3 inches, the inboard end has a slide car to go on a track on the fwd.part of the mainmast, the outboard end has a traditional piston trigger where the sheet would go through. This a serious piece of offshore cruising gear.I dont own a camera but could borrow one and take pictures if you are seriously interested

Re: Downwind Pole

Sounds like a Spinnaker pole. You know, the one every boat has in chocks on the side deck that came with the used boat they bought. A downwind reaching pole would be custom made for a particular sail if not adjustable, and adjustable to use with various sized headsails. Reaching struts are those short, thick poles with an open fitting on one end to increase the angle of the dangle of the sheet lead.
