For Sale: Monitor Windvane $1500

1990 Monitor Windvane with wheel adapter and one plywood airvane. Just removed from our Tanton 44 Jambo - we are going the way of dinghy davits.

Vane is at Vallarta Yacht Sales and Service, Paradise Village, Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

Needs minor tuneup. Vane was rebuilt in 2004 before trip from Washington State and has not been used because the autopilot did all the work.

Torgeir,

Well, I already have the davits down in Mexico but thanks for that thought.

Here are some more details - there are a couple of things that I know about that need to be fixed.

The windvane is in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico and was just pulled off my boat
because I am adding dinghy davits and have had good luck with my heavy-duty hydraulic autopilot.

There are two things that I am aware of that need to be fixed on the
vane.

First is that the release pin that detaches the blade (where the blade
folds up) is frozen in the stainless block. It will need to be
pressed or drilled out, maybe using heat to get it loose. There is a
spare used pin with the extra parts for the vane.

Second, there is a small stainless piece (about 1/2" long) that forms
the clamp to to secure the lower blade tube into the tube above it
that needs to be rewelded. This piece goes around the bolt forming a
small saddle.

Those are the only things that I saw when I took the vane off my boat
about two weeks ago, but of course everything should be looked over.

You would also need new control lines and blocks to match up with your
own particular setup. You might need to adjust the length of the
mounting tubes depending on your boat.

There is a single plywood wind blade which you might want to replace with
the blades offered by Monitor. They offer different sizes, I think, to deal
with varying wind speeds and boat setups.

There is a lot of information about vane installation on the Monitor site
www.selfsteer.com including pictures of quite a few installations on a
variety of boats. You can get pretty good help with all kinds of boat
work in the Puerto Vallarta area if needed.

I am getting the chandlery that has the vane on consignment to get me the serial number since apparently Monitor has pretty good records on each vane.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I will give you a call shortly, but will respond with this email anyhow.

Regards,

Evan

My email is evangull@sopris.net, if you have not done anything in a month or so send me an email and I will let you know if the vane is still for sale.

Thanks,
