Free Boat, come get it.

True story, 50 foot wooden hull for sale.

Not mast or rigging, no engine or tanks.

Time is of essence, you have to take it away, or start paying rent in the next few weeks.

Located Fort Lauderdale.

Need some TLC...Will post pics tomorrow

Looks like I won't make it to the yard to shoot pics after all, peprhaps tomorrow...

Seems this ad atracted quite some attention, 86 views in less than 24 hours.

Reminds me of the most popular ever tabloid head-line using only 3 words:

Win Free Sex

Can't promise that, but this boat is free and to my eyes the hull looks to be in fairly good shape. Some caulking is needed between the planks before it can be splashed, and it needs bottom paint. Right now it is bare wood so any problems can easily be seen.

I don't know the history of the boat, but owner probably went broke, the yard took over ownership and now they want to get read of it as it takes up valuable space.

Not to be a wet blanket but some boats truly have negative value....meaning that you would have to pay someone to take it off your hands.

I don't know how many old wood boats I have seen get hauled of the water, get cut up with a chain saw and then get thrown in a dumpster....because absolutely nobody wants it for free.

I have faith in CSY Man - He rescued that big ol' boat $10k by talking it up here for a while.

If anyone can convince someone to buy a "rescue boat", CSY Man can...

Ya mean the $15K Ferro cement boat?

Did not talk it up, just gave the facts..Go back and check: No promises, no bragging. The buyer requested picuters, I sent him 39 interior shots then some. He bought the boat unseen and declined a survey.

Same with this "free" boat, by all means, get a survey. In the meantime I will hit the yard tomorrow with my digital camera and shoot some pics to post here.
I think the hull is made from teak and that scrap value could possibly be over $10,000...Come get it..

As a kid, I worked in a boat yard, steaming planks for wooden hull repairs. It cured me of the notion of boat ownership for decades...

I guess this boat is now history but I am interested into knowing OF its history, what happened? sunk, storm damage, abandoned project?

Its kinda sad, I would have loved to at the very least been able to see it up close and consider my options. I too may have decided to salvage it. Anyhow I posted a thread about how much I wanted a "free boat" on another forum but I am leaning towards a power boat. Logically a sailboat is what a person needs in our unsure economy but I love engines especially big diesels.

Pretty much all for the above.
It went under so the engines are history, but the masts and rig are good.
Some brave dude tried to salvage the project, but money got in the way.

She was a charter boat, then this happened and that, etc.
Don't know all the details, but it sure is sad slaugthering a prould old ship.

Don't have much history. Tried to do a Google search on the boat, but nothing came up.
The yard manager said some dreamer had bought the boat with the idea of restoring it. Then ran out of money and signed the boat over to the yard.

I feel bad about cutting up the boat and throwing the pieces in large dumpsters, but I sure as hell can't save it without selling the house and getting a divorce..And if I did that my wife would kill my azz dead, not a good ending either..

I would LOVE to just see more pictures of this boat and the inside of it too. I think there are a lot of us that would love to see a bunch of pics...lol. It is sad to think of it being cut up but I do understand.
Such a curious and mysterious looking old boat..the kind of boat some artist should be painting a picture of. My husband thinks I am nuts when I told him you can almost see the soul of that boat in the picture...like she knows her time is almost up but is still trying to stand tall her masts. (I know...I get kinda fruity sometimes lol)
