Great Bedroom Compass

Sleep better at anchor! Ritchie model B-51. Clean lens, not all scratched up, not too sunbaked either. Lens is about 2.5-3" $30 shipped lower 48. Paypal or USPS money order.

Re: Great Bedroom Compass

Bedroom compass? In case you are in need of some...."direction"??

Could add a whole new dimension to "Navigation".

No, there are northern-hemisphere and southern-hemisphere compasses.

The difference between compasses designed to work in the northern and southern hemispheres is simply the location of the "balance", a weight placed on the needle to ensure it remains in a horizontal plane and hence free to rotate.

Since the magnetic field dips down at the poles, the Northern hemisphere compass needle has a weight on the south end of the needle, and the Southern compass the weight is placed on the North end of the needle.

Re: Great Bedroom Compass

I don't know if they are still made but you used to be able to buy a compass designed to be mounted upside down over the Captains bunk. That way he didn't need to get out of bed to see which way the boat was pointed.

Yes they are still available, mostly on eBay, they are called "telltale" compasses. Most are very expensive but you can still buy the Plastimo Iris 100 for around $150, and less if you're patient and watch eBay. I just picked one up for about $35 but I had a saved search alerting me for over a year (and was outbid many times on various auctions) before I was successful at getting one at the right price. Plastimo Iris 100 Hand Bearing Compass at AhoyCaptain.com - Always your best source.

Gord, you are way too serious . With the way the comments were going about bedroom directions, I was wondering if this would read correctly in an Aus or Kiwi reverse missionary position. after 2 X
