Harken manual BACKSTAY adjuster or FORESTAY release

This is a NOS Harken manual backstay adjuster. I was going to use it as an inner forestay release. I will include the quick pin. It takes 7/16 inch clevis pin. Adjusts from 16 1/4" to 21 1/2" or so. Beautiful chrome bronze, works easily. $250 shipped in US.

Question Re: Harken manual BACKSTAY adjuster or FORESTAY release

Hi John - I have only used a split backstay with a block and tackle and a hydraulic backstay on several J boats. Can you tell me if this can be adjusted while underway without releasing the entire backstay itself? Does it work like a turnbuckle - internal thread adjustment for length?

Thanks,
Ron

Damn conscience.

I talked the previous poster out of buying this for an incorrect purpose. It's still available.

What was the wire this came off of? I have a inner stay on my cutter that I lost the wire tension binder and can't find..

Re: Harken manual BACKSTAY adjuster or FORESTAY release

7/16" clevis pin typically is used with 7/32 or 1/4" wire. Think 30 footer ballpark for backstay, maybe a bit bigger boat for inner forestay.

I also have this bigger one with 5/8" thread for 5/16 thru 7/16 wire. Would need a different Norseman/StaLok for other than 7/16 wire. Probably better for a 47 footer

Oh got ya, yea a bit small for my inner stay. I lost that other one you are selling. But I was hoping to upgrade to something more adjustable like this.

Thanks, I'm not good with all the sizing and stuff.

Not quite as easily, but the other one is adjustable by screwing in the Norseman fitting. It turns easily. A wingnut can be used to lock it after adjustment, correct fine thread available in SS thru McMaster for $10
