Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

I am in need of a heat exchanger for a 1983 Perkins diesel model 4.236.
The part i need was manufactured by Serck in the UK and it is a part number: 445144011. I've already contacted Serck and they would have to build one and could not have it to me before September.
Any help would be appriciated.

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

Well if you want a new one. You might try TA Diesel they are on the eastern seaboard. If you have time to look around S&W in Willington Ca. might have a used one. Or Minneys in Coast Mesa Ca. But It is going to cost you. If you google it you will find one I would look in your area for marine engine rebuilders and hope I get lucky. Also Donatos in Lake Union Wa. Larry Stewart @ Stewart's Marine in Lake Union Wa. Good luck.

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

Thanks Redcoat.
I've Googled it every way I can think of and not found even one that would fit my engine. I will try your sources and if I have no luck there I guess I will "bite the bullet" and have one made.

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

Thanks Bozsail, but that model is for the newer 4.236 and will not fit my old (1982) Perkins. I don't know when they changed the design but I wish that one would fit, since I finally just found a aftermarket exchanger that (they say) will fit for $1,430.00. Ouch! Now we know why they call it a B.O.A.T.
Thanks everyone for all of your replies and if this one doesn't work (though I'm pretty sure that it will), I'll be back on this topic again. :-)

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

I have an old heat exchanger that might just need cleaning. I can't guarantee anything about it and know that it came from an old Perkins in a Fishing boat many years ago. If you are willing to take a chance and just test and clean it up it'll definitely be much cheaper. Here are the dimensions. 17" long and 3" in diameter. It has end caps on both ends that are removable and intake and outflow are on one end.
If you are truly interested I can take the time to take some photos.
kind regards,

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

any heat exchanger, rated for the output of your engine, or higher, will work.
you will need to flex hose it.

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

Is there a particular reason the heat exchanger has to be specific for that engine? I would think that any industrial shell and tube heat exchanger could be adapted to the engine and may be cheaper since the word marine wouldn't appear in the description

Re: Heat Exchanger for Perkins diesel

it would be best if it was marine. but any marine would do that is big enough.

Try Bowman. The link below goes to their catalog.

I put in a header tank heat exchanger on my 1986 4.108 when I couldn't find a header tank. Coincidentally I had a VERY rusted out exhaust manifold so I got it in one piece. I've had it for three years now and I'm very pleased with it.
