Get the strut pro cutlass bearing tool and you wont need to pull the shaft, its $400 but the job only takes 1/2 hour total.

Re: help endeavor 40 1985

are you making a general statement for getting the tool as my question was very specific on a 1985 endeavor 40 can the cutlass bearing be replaced or the shaft for that matter without removing ( dropping the rudder) as it appears that the skeg is in the way of shaft removal looking for info from fellow endeavor 40 owner thanks

I have an E-40. I haven't changed the cutlass bearing in some time but it seems like-if memory serves me- that when I did the shaft would in fact clear the rudder/skeg-but just barely! Good luck!

Re: help endeavor 40 1985

Well my question to your question is do you know what your strut looks like? I could go to many sites and find a side profile and figure it out, but its your boat not mine. As I said before many, many cutlass bearings can be changed without pulling the shaft, which is sometimes a pain. Just giving you some advice, which you need because your asking. No need to get snippy.
