Hurry!

Hi all, broken down in Chiapas and looking for a transmission before the whole dream falls apart. Volvo MSB type, top shift, behind my MD-11. Also used with MD1; 2; 3 and MD-17. Thanks, and hurry!

Re: Hurry!

I don't have one, but I wondering what is wrong with yours. Could you rebuild yours? You may find more help with that, than a whole tranny.

Re: Hurry!

True! Some parts are still available. Here in Chiapas the skills probably exist. The timing is the issue. Cruising with children, we need to be underway again within a week, or we will need to haul out and leave the boat here with no clear idea when we can get back.

Re: Hurry!

What is it doing? Nothing? Won't reverse? Won't shift?

Re: Hurry!

Bad noise, now when engine is turned over, reaches a point in rotation where it won't turn farther. Makes a "clink" like a gear tooth falling. Or something.

Re: Hurry!

Yikes. That's not an easy fix. I did find a service manual online, but doubtful you could get parts quickly. The actual rebuild shouldn't take more than a day or so, but finding parts in stock and shipping to "God's country".

Re: Hurry!

Look on the San Francisco Craigslist. I think there is a fellow in Napa (just north of SF) that is selling one. Good Luck. _____Grant.

Re: Hurry!

OOPs, My mistake. He has an MS2 B L for sale. It has the output tilted down so probably would not interchange. I hope you find what you need. _______ Grant

Re: Hurry!

Grant, I just looked and you are correct on all counts! Amazing recall, you must be a classified cruiser like me! A Volvo mechanic in Wisconsin said today that it sounds like friction material from the clutches, so maybe we can go to a brake recliner here in Tapachula and reline them. Wish us luck! And thanks!
