Re: Hydrovane Self Steering

Hello Pine Painter,
I am very interested on HydroVane. However, on their website, HydroVane gives a warning on used models claiming that it will cost pretty much the same to buy a new one and to buy a used one and new mounting parts to fit it to a new boat. Furthermore, they claim that new features would still be missed. Sound like a good sales talk aiming to sell more new units, however, it partly makes sense, too.

New unit has a new higher price as well, so I’d now very much like to know more about your unit. From what year it is? Does it have the new kind of vane and rudder or are they of an older design? To what size of boat (length/weight) it is intended to? Is the larger diameter shaft meant to replace the thinner one? For what kind of transom does it fit with its current H and E-brackets and M-shaft?

Re: Hydrovane Self Steering

Hi Heikki, I've sent you a PM with some further detail, also you can see the shape of my transom if you go to an Ohlson website Ohlson 38 The unit for sale is fitted to the same shape transom as the one in the half model on that home page, not the reverse angled transom shown in some of the other pictures.

Re: Hydrovane Self Steering

The Hydrovane Steering Gear has been sold. Thank you to those members who showed an interest.

The M-Length 1 1/4" shaft (new in 2009) is still available at £450 (approx £200 below the new price) for anybody who is considering the need for an upgrade to fit the new 50% larger rudder.
