ok--so you are in the same spot i was in once--if you want a boat that is affordable and in decent shape--the price you are able to afford will probably preclude cruisable condition--you will have to do stuff to boat before braving open seas.... formosa, westsail, some cape dory, ct, hardin--look these over--often come with a good low price -- formosa/ct/hardin due to leaky teaky reputation--dont listen t o all of it--if you decide to like one of these, i can help direct you to repairs in less painfull ways--there is an online group for us..
i gotta say, was hard to read thru the schmaltzy stuff to get to the stuff of your post--but is all good--you got the immediate thoughts at first--now we can talk---where are you located--east coast, west, south?/ --general area can help with location of possibilities. i know of a tayana in louisiana for around 20 k-ish--all is new...is on the hard in a yard near new orleans....would be an excellent investment and an excellent cruiser for the one who is desirous of putting the pieces together---man died, left boat unfinished with all brand new pieces and tronix..
tayana 37--
we are talking BRAND NEW with stickers still on the bits and pieces--would be worth while putting her back together --especially at the price the estate is willing to sell her for. pm me if this is interesting to you---i know how to contact the estate....had to see if you were for real first--you came back--lets run with this--you CAN do this!!!!!

You might try the Cape Dory owners association forum. They have a for sale section and many a boat has passed thru from loving owners to new dreamers who want to sail wherever they wish. Cape Dory's are good boatfor doing that. 30k would probably get you a 28-30 footer. Good luck in your dreams, we've all had them at one time...wizard

There is a CD30 in Kemah, TX that has just been through a re-fit. Has refrigeration, AC, new rig, dinghy, etc. Ask is 24K, I think.

Oh, and I just got the new issue of GOB. There's an Allied Seawind 30 at Camp Lejuene, NC that's also just been through refit. Ask is 23K. Wow.

There's a pretty sound Tartan 34 In Jonesport, Maine that could probably be had for under 20k.
