Re: Katadyn Watermaker

I would be interested but not at your price, unless I have missed something. It sounds like you have a 5 year old unit that is in serviceable condition, but probably needs to be taken apart and rebuilt with new membrane, and who knows about the cleaning cycle leak. Why would I take a chance on a 5 year old unit when I could buy one nearly new, with a warranty for just a few bucks more than I would likely have in yours after I get everything checked out with a new membrane?

Re: Katadyn Watermaker

Valid points. First, I apologies for the voltage confusion, this unit is 12v, I was copying verbatim from the manual with the brain turned off, so to confirm this is a 12v unit.

If you had to replace the membrane, Defender is selling them for $390. As for the leaky Relief/Cleaning Valve Assembly, Katadyn quoted me $45 for a replacement.

It's been my experience and Katadyns claim that with regular use and proper cleaning/maintenance the membrane will last a long time. While cruising we used the system daily, whenever we shut her down for a week or more she was pickled.

As an aside, the extra pieces and parts I mention are the left overs from the various kits I bought (Seal Replacement @$140 and Extended Cruise Kit @$320). Also, I forgot to mention that I also have the handle required to use the system manually (we have never done so).

Regards
Ed
