You should look at books. Most members here can provide some help, but not all. It would be easier if you can bring up a budget. Since you are going solo, and being someone who is just starting out you should research boats in the 9.2 meters (30 feet) range......

If thialand = Thailand then any boat that made it there would probably do.

roderickwaller,

If you don't have access to a library, James Baldwin's list is a good starting point (and has been posted on CF a number of times before)-

Hmmm... could be hard to find out there.. reckon your best bet is Fly n Buy... get a flight to the UK and look at the Westerly range up to 36ft.. solid strong boats.. a bit dated but great sea going vessel with better storage than most modern boats on the market.
Fishers are also worth a look.. more a motor sailor but once again a rugged solid glass hull.. there's others but those are a start.. the plus side is though some could be up to 40yrs old they've spent less than half their life afloat and usually lightly used..
Then sail her back and see 3/4's of the Tropic world on the way

Re: looking for a good sloop to sail blue waters solo

I just talked to a fellow here who sailed through the S Pacific in a "Westerly 26" on a circumnavigation. He has moved to a larger boat, but had nothing but positive things to say about the Westerly.

I'm not sure I'd start a SP voyage in UK, though.

I have a 40’ boat, that is undergoing an extensive refit here in Thailand.

I am selling my Pearson 40 cutter rigged sloop. She is totally refit for cruising and is ready for blue water passages. Endeavor is located in Bristol, Rhode Island USA and her specs and equipment list is on Yachtworld.com: Listing # 76717-2703477. If interested, please contact me at rdowall@shore.net.

Thanks,

Re: looking for a good sloop to sail blue waters solo

We are in Langkawi, Malaysia and are looking to sell our 13 meter sloop.

We left Seattle 7 years ago and are now in Malaysia. Kalalau is a proven blue water boat and I HIGHLY recommend the South Pacific Islands. We spent 4 years there.

Since we left in 2007 our 3 children have married, settled down and started families. I am ready to go home and be a grandparent!!

Good luck on your search. You will love the blue water community.

G'Day Kathleen,

Why, fancy meeting you here! Sorry to hear that the grandparent disease has struck... good luck with the sale.

Cheers to you both,

Jim

You might look at 20 small boat to take you anywhere by John Vigor. Good place to start.
