looking for a old autohelm 3000 remote

Well my old simrad wheelpilot died completely, Motor does not turn, though control head works.

So I reinstalled my old autohelm 3000 autopilot that still works perfect.

I would love to find an old remote for the 3000 autohelm. Anyone have one they want to offload, er, sell to a good home, I will buy it.

Also, if anyone wants a complete non working simrad wp31 wheel pilot with remote for parts drop me a line. The control head and remote work, but motor is non function.

G'Day SC,

I think that I have one hiding i n the deep storage somewhere. If you can't find one nearby, and are willing to pay postage from Oz, you are welcome to it... if I can find it!

If that works for you, I'll start searching!

Jim

That works for me, if you find it. No rush as I'm bouncing around anchorages for a month or two. I can paypal the funds.

Sort of OT, but...
Our boat came with a Nautech 3000, it promptly went up in a ball of smoke. (didn't know these were designed by Lucas ). Anyway, if I can find another, (cheap) would this be suitable for such things as motoring to Catalina before the wind comes up? The motor and wheel/belt are still in good shape.

The autohelm 3000 is more then adequate for motoring and even sailing.

Sometimes it's just the power transistors that drive the motor that go bad. Mine did and I replaced them. You need two PNP and two NPN Darlington power transistors. Of course having a desoldering iron helps too. It's a pretty easy repair. Though care is needed to not damage the ribbon cable and to not disassemble the rudder control detent thingy.

BTW if anyone has non-working autohelm 3000 units, I would be happy to either take if off your hand or give a hand to replace the power transistors.

OK, SC, I'll start looking, in the easier places first of course. Mr Murphy has explained to me that no matter where I start looking, it will be found (maybe) in the most remote and difficult locker in the boat.

I'll be in touch...

Jim

Thank you Jim.

I've found that the key to finding something is to look for something else. No matter what, I'll find everything else first then what I'm looking for.
