I think OP said he was just waiting on survey, but a great question as many aspirations are nothing more than pipe-dreams.

Wow, I've been packing and seperating stuff most of the day, I finally look at this thread and there's been a million questions... LOL.
Well, I would consider myself a novice. I am ASA certified in 101,103,105 and have crewed on several vessels, including acouple weeks ago when I helped take a 44 footer just like the one I'm buying down from Virginia to Florida. After that I looked at several boats and came across one I really love.

but in my experiance its not rocket science sailing a boat!!

the main factor these days is to have plenty of cash!!

if chase pays my air fares i'd be happy to come along and show them the ropes,as im' sure other exp sailors on the forum would.

and happy new year
I don't have a lot of cash, hopefully enough to buy the boat and do the upgrades and keep me out there for awhile. It seems like a lot when it's in a pile but when I start deducting expenses it's not... LOL. But I'll still have a monthly income so I'm okay for a bit...

The owner and I have signed a purchase agreement and I'm looking for a surveyor as we speak, hopefully I can get one started the first week of January. I've looked over the boat pretty well and I don't believe the surveyor is going to find much wrong with it if anything... Knock on wood.

That is a problem, everyone wants to do this but people don't take action. I've already given 30 days notice to move out of my house and am halfway through the process of getting a boat, the hard part was finding one...

There isn't a shortage, that's for sure, but I'm getting an awesome boat and I would tell you all about it, if I didn't feel it would jinx it in some way... LOL.

Re: Looking for Cruising Nanny...

sorry didn't mean to paint you as the millionaire! though having a bit of capital and an imcome sets you apart from all the other dreamers!

frequently people post on the forum thinking getting a boat is akin to buying a trailor, and all they need is a gps to make any voyage!

you have obviously done the ground work and put a lot of thought into this!!
like i said before its not rocket science,as many would have you belive!

No problem, I didn't think you painted me as a millionaire... LOL.
My life matto is, I'd rather go out owing a million than owning a million.

Well, the advise of most people who have accomplished the dream is to "just do it, otherwise you'll never get out there" I've taken that advise to heart. I did what I had to to feel comfortable buying and setting sail, and mostly I've realized that the only way to actually know and learn how to sail is to do it, studying doesn't give life experience and sailing is very basic essentially, if you can sail a 30 footer, you can sail a 50 footer with a bit of trial and error... LOL. And a bit more muscle... The terminology is the worst of it...

No, I've already learned that one. I enjoy docking in tight spaces without a bow thruster... Although, bow thrusters are nice.

Re: Looking for Cruising Nanny...

Most saileors don' t realise the smaller the boat the more difficult to sail. My boat is the living proof of that expression.
So, a 50 footer sails more easy than a 30 footer does.

On the other hand, experience is knowledge that comes too late.

A happy and prosperous 2012 to all!

I am sorting out the wiring of my new com system.
