Main Sail for Endeavourcat 30 needed desperately

Hi folks, caught in a squall and despite reefing down we have a shredded main sail on our 1992 Endeavourcat 30. Desperately need a main sail that will fit. Smaller is fine. Have measured the following:

Luff 35ft (Maybe a couple inches more okay)
Leech 38ft (Maybe a couple inches more okay)
Foot 17 ft (inch or two more okay)
Smaller would be safer to make sure it fits.

We are stuck on a small Cay in the Bahamas (Munjack Cay) with a small Jib and no main sail, as well as a broken inner stay but our spirits are still intact. Have jury rigged the stay and are going to cut the main sail shorter and see if we can't somehow sew it together as a jury rigged sail but this is out of desperation. We don't have a lot to spend. Please ask around and see if we can source something, thanks.

I think there is one around here 36 by 18. Have not measured it myself. That too big?

Did you check the inventory of used sail of
Bacon Sails they are in Annapolis

And if you buy a used sail from a person or a company outside of the Bahamas send them a copy of your cruising permit need to be send with your sail to avoid the 50 % taxes of importation

Good luck

Re: Main Sail for Endeavourcat 30 needed desperately

Sailorman in Fort Lauderdale, Minney's in Southern California are two I know. There are a lot of other used sail stores.
Google used sailboat sails and you will have many. Otherwise those on this forum usually have enough for their own boats. But many have some locations of used sail stores. A good Google search should put you in touch with some who will work with you. Many are reasonable, but the cost of shipping might be high. You will have to determine where the benefits of buying an intact and good condition sail outweighs the cost in time and effort to sew and repair what you have to limp back.
Good luck.

Many lofts have new sails that were never picked up or slightly used. its worth a check.

There are several sail lofts that specialize in used sails. Google search shows:

Atlantic Sail Traders - Used sails, New sails, Sail Broker

That is so close but just too big. I might get away with 35.4 or 35.6 by 17.3.

Re: Main Sail for Endeavourcat 30 needed desperately

Thank you for your help and effort in providing those links, much appreciated. With the exception of 2 I had already checked those sites. I re-checked them but there doesn't seem to be anything that will work. The Endeavourcat has a long boom for the luff and leech, so I guess it will be a hard search.

(949) 548-4192Thanks for that list. Yes, the Endeavourcat does have a long foot for the luff and leech lengths. I can do with a slightly shorter foot length but often the leech is too short too and I would have a boom that sits at an unacceptably high angle lol.

Thanks for that info, appreciate that effort, yes the Endeavourcat does have a long foot. Often the leech is too short too and then I would be sitting with a boom angled so I could slide down lol.

Re: Main Sail for Endeavourcat 30 needed desperately

A big thanks to some folks here who have really tried to help with links etc. I still haven't found anything suitable but have so far cut the shredded sail and have pieced it as best I can. Someone is lending me a sewing machine so tomorrow I will see what I can sew and end up with haha. I hope my jury rigged sail and sewing will get us back to the States.

Re: Main Sail for Endeavourcat 30 needed desperately

You could go South to Nassau for a new local sail: Phillips Sailmakers – RACING & CRUISING SAILS

If you are heading to the US now, the winds are predominantly out of the East - just wait for a good forecast and slide on over under just your headsail.
