Need an Autopilot

I have a Catalina 27, wheel steering, and I need an inexpensive autopilot. Mainly to go forward and raise the main or take small breaks from the wheel to trim the sails. I was hoping someone has upgraded and has an older unit they are wanting to part with. If so PM me or post and let me know. Thanks!

Re: Need an autopilot

I've got an Autohelm ST4000 autopilot for sale. It includes the control/display head, fluxgate compass sensor, wheel drive unit, spoke clamps, pedestal bracket and owners/installation manual. Asking $600. I'm located in NY.

Re: Need an autopilot

Replusted, Thank you. That is exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately, it is slightly outside of my budget for boat gadgets. I'll continue the search, thanks for posting.

Re: Need an autopilot

Joe, There have been a few other people who have contacted me about the autopilot. I am going to contact the other interested parties in the order in which they contacted me. I will keep you in mind if it's still available in a few days. Just trying to be fair.

Re: Need an Autopilot

OR, does anyone know if it is possible to attach a tiller pilot to a wheel. Possibly with a fabricated "prong" to basicaly hold the wheel in place for short periods.

Re: Need an Autopilot

Why not? if you hold the wheel at the bottom, the motions to steer are the same as for a tiller. Attach the pilot to the bottom and bob's yer uncle.

Not that I've tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. U might need to fiddle around a bit to get a reliable attachment.

Re: Need an Autopilot

Do you have a tiller pilot? I have a older Autohelm 3000 unit I will sell for $350 or would consider trading for your tiller pilot. Unit is in good shape and lightly used but is one of the older models.

Re: Need an Autopilot

As soon as the weather warms up and I can start working on the boat, I will have an Autohelm belt drive unit available. It will consist of the drive wheel, belt, servo, servo mounting bracket for pedistal, control head and control head hanging bracket. I'm right around $200 for the unit but am fairly flexable on the price.
