Oil Lamps ( Anchor / Interior )

looking to get a hold of enough oil lamps to forgo the electrical system

need an anchor light stern light, 6 or so of the gimballed bulkhead mount lights and one to hang above the saloon table...

have lots of bits and peices id be willing to trade, if there is something your looking for and you have an oil lamp you dont need maybe we can work something out...

Re: Oil Lamps (anchor/interior)

oil lamps are great in hot summers on board in the tropix.

while we speak of wanting--i am seeking a set of kerosene nav lites -- one green , one red.

If the only electrical needs you have is lighting I suggest the small LED stickup lights. Batteries won't cost any more than fuel.

Re: Oil Lamps ( Anchor / Interior )

problem is stick ups donoo t have navigational capability. red and green kerosene nav lites are available at a great price from antique dealers.

I agree with Gregegner. I used to have oil lamp running lights that worked well and I loved them but you need to store the oil (or mineral spirits, which works much better) and that takes as much space as a battery, and my lamps would blow out if the wind was 40 kts. or more.

yea, I agree on that stick ups don't have the nav ability, but besides being grand fathered in I don't like the oil lamps. The LED nav lights I have don't use much power and require little maintenance. A single solar cell should be able to up with your needs (or a small alternator on any engine) I have converted a few 12 volt fixtures to LEDs. Make your life simple go LED.

Re: Oil Lamps ( Anchor / Interior )

is a very very good use for them. is an excellent backup for failing electrical system and for conservation of electricities on board for your laptop and nav devices that consume so much power---

My onboard electricity hasn't failed in 25 years. Why should it start now. I'm an electronics engineer, I can fix this stuff in my sleep with a Biro top and a rusty coathanger 

And if it does fail the least of my worries will be running lights. I'm mean how can I continue without the onboard wifi , 2k , iPod,iPhone wimax, multimedia, 3d virtual navigation, autopilot, a/c,multiple reefers, onboard PC, LEDs out the waszu ... , not to mention the ultrasonic wind meter, accelerometers, heading sensors, satellite compass. ( right Nick). .... Please...
