Perkins 4-107 Starter

I have a Perkins 4-107. The starter I have was made to mount on the Port side. The bell housing I have mounts the starter on the Stbd side. This means the solenoid is on the bottom and hits the hull.
Do you have a stater you would trade with me?
Mine is the one with the solenoid on the bottom on the steel work bench.
What I need is like the pretty one, but I don't want it made in China.
thanks ... PM me if you can help out

Re: Perkins 4-107 Starter

FWIW, What you have is a aftermarket planetary gear starter. 107 & 108 engines came with a straight drive starter. Planetary gear starters are a great upgrade but you will have almost no chance of finding someone to swap with you unless you would settle for an old straight drive starter in exchange. That said, if someone else made the same kind of mistake and could not return the part, you might be in luck.

Re: Perkins 4-107 Starter

These starters are used all day long on Bobcat skid loaders. That's how I know they come with the solenoid both on top and bottom.
I put my drive train together from engines from several different boat. The engine I rebuilt came from a fishing boat. It was the refrigeration diesel. The bellhousing, adapter plater plate and flywheel came from a sailboat with a 4-108. Then I got 4-107 from a guy here on CF. That bellhousing had the starter on the opposite side.
This engine is new to this boat. I didn't there would be a problem until I started aligning everything.

Perhaps you should be on the Bobcat skid loader website or explain how these starters work on a Perkins. It would be good news on how to buy a modern starter for a Perkins.

If you don't mind them being manufactured in China, they are listed on ebay:

This may be what you are looking for:
New Starter Lincoln, New Holland, and Perkins 10465044

If you don't want to purchase from them (unkown country of origin) you should be able to use some of the AC Delco numbers, mentioned on the page, to find another one. Here are the tech specs. Just because it looks the same on the outside, doesn't mean it's the same. Pay attention to direction off rotation and the diameter of the pinion and the number of splines on the pinion.
