Re: Perkins 4-108

I bought the engine from Rob (Beetle). Pretty typical of my dealings with people that I've met through internet forums.
Rob is a great guy, dead honest, and the engine was just a bit better than he described. It was a pleasure to meet him and I hope he's as happy as I am.
THANKS ROB!

I guess that would be the $11,200 dollar difference in price.

If I had the money for that I probably would have had the money for a boat that didn't need an engine right away.

Re: Perkins 4-108

Hi Sww,

Sounds like a happy ending. If something changes I have a low hour Nineteen Ninety Five Volvo MD22 that runs and looks great. It is a 59 hp motor on a Perkins base engine and is a drop in replacement for the 4-one08...On the hard since 2004 and removed from a cold molded Alden design with structural failure. Located in the Bay area of California...complete with tranny...PM me if anything changes for you...

Hi SWW -

that's super the motor works for you and the boat - glad to hear it! I hope it provides good service for you into your cruising plans. And yes, I'm happy to see the motor go to a good home, and glad to have it out of the small shop.

I'm putting the final touches on the wiring that runs through the engine box (AC power, DC power, lighting) and that will wrap up my repower. Life is pretty good all round.

Keep me posted on your travels!

- rob/beetle

Ah yes, there are always trade offs. Money vs. HP. is one of them.

Re: Perkins 4-108

Volvo MD-22, when you say "drop in replacement", how close a match are you talking?

Is it just a similar size, or are all the bolt patterns on the flywheel the same, same mounting footprint, with exhaust on the same side?
