How old is this unit?

This unit was owned by by my father, and I don't know when it was purchased. I do know that Karadyn 40E Powersurvivor is the equivalent model being produced today. This unit is still in it's original, sealed factory packaging, in unused, brand new condition. At 1/2 price of a 40E, I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet ... am I missing something?

This will almost certainly need a new membrane $400 and a compete breakdown and inspection and possibly replacement of all seals. My guess is it's 20 years old. IMO a used 40 for the $800-1200 they typically sell for would be a much better deal as the 40 is a more robust unit.

Just got off the phone with the service people at Katadyn. These units were last produced in 1996. The service tech said it will need a new membrane costing $375, and other than than that it would be good to go. It will be listed on EBay tonight if I don't get any interest on this site.
