Racer/cruiser 30-34' in the NC area

My wife and I are looking for a "performance oriented" boat with a nice interior in the 30 to 34 foot LOA range in the North Carolina vicinity (Virginia, S. Carolina, etc.). All our previous boats were race boats (Express 37, Soverel 33, Beneteau 40) but now we're looking for something smaller for some day sailing and coastal cruising. Ideal boat is:

- 30-34 feet LOA
- moderate draft (less than 6 feet) or even better is a lifting keel
- relatively fast PHRF rating (150 or faster)
- nice interior (sleeps 3 - 4 in a pinch)
- 6+ knots under power
- located on or near the ICW so I don't have to truck it home

Don't mind a bit of elbow grease and old electronics, but not looking for a major project. Boat's I'd consider: J30 (late 80's), Soverel 33 (Tartan built), S-2 9.1, Capo 30, Olson 911-S or any performance oriented boats from the mid to late 80's or later.

Budget is sub $20K but can do more for the right boat. Thanks!

Re: Racer/cruiser 30-34' in the NC area

I have a C&C 30 that would fit the bill. Currently berthed about 2 miles from the ICW near Oriental. She's a bit older than you are looking for but read on. All of her major systems have been upgraded.

Lifestyle changes are the only reason I'm selling.

The early C&C 30's are known as one of the stiffest 30 footers ever built and this one is a perfect example. This boat handles like a dream, is extremely well balanced and mannered.

She's been up-fitted with some major improvements over the years.

New Perkins diesel and aluminum fuel tank (2006)
New fuel lines and Racor 500 with 30 micron filter (2016)
New fuel pump (2016)
New cushions (2006)
Upgraded counter surfaces and new dinette table (2008)
Deck painted with non - skid (2008)
Uniden VHF radio (2008)
AM/FM/CD stereo and speakers (2008)
Rewired entire boat (2008)
New battery charger (2008)
New cabin lighting (2008)
New toilet and hoses (2006)

The following was new in 2014:

New standing and running rigging
New additional wiring and (3) new batteries/and selector switch
1000w pure sine wave inverter
Two new bilge and two new water pumps
Mast step rebuilt
Fuel tank cleaned
LED anchor light
Garmin GPS
Halyards lead to cockpit
Boom vang added
Two reefing points added to mainsail & boom

Also included are:
microwave
refrigerator
portable A/C
five head sails (including spinnaker)
two Danforth anchors + chain and 100’ rope
one Fortress storm anchor + 100’ cable and rope.
dingy
new 4.5 hp Mercury OB
overboard suit
life jackets
depth sounder
spare parts
dock lines
110 shore power
many, many other “boat parts”

The North sails are older but still power the boat like a dream. The spinnaker looks brand new.

The boat was just hauled for a fresh bottom paint and new zinc.

I'm currently in the process of replacing the hand rails.

Asking price is $17,500.

Thanks jcolman, very pretty boat and one of the shiniest paint jobs I think I've ever seen. I'll share this information with the commodore (my wife).

I've expanded my search now to include anywhere along the East Coast from Georgia up to and including Maryland.
