Rocna 40 Anchor

Rocna 40 Anchor. It was taken off a 60ft sailing yacht and is in great condition, owner just wanted stainless instead of galvanized. Look at the picts and you can see how good it is. It is a heavy duty anchor that will hold. It retails for around $1200 and that doesn't include the stainless swivel along with it. Please call 561-420-9828 for more info

Re: Ronca 40 Anchor

I saw your listing on Ebay for this anchor. Unfortunately, the title there and here is for a "Ronca".... the correct spelling is Rocna. You may want to relist it on eBay if it doesn't sell here.

I was going to send you a note on ebay, but I always hate when people correct others spelling. I didn't want to be a hypocrite, but thought it may actually help in this case.

Good luck with the sale. I just wish it was about 30 pounds lower weight... it's a little too much for my 34'

Yea, I'm not one of those I always appreciate helpful hints and correction. Spelling never was a strong point for me.

Re: Rocna 40 Anchor

A swivel mounted like that is a bad idea. Any side load will cause the forks to be levered apart with force that is a multiple of the actual straight pull. (I have one that came with my boat that has bent forks.) It will fail before it reaches full rated load, under that circumstance.

If you think must use a swivel (I don't), it is a much better idea to use a D shackle (between swivel and shank) positioned so the semi-circle of the D is through the shank, and the shackle pin is through the swivel. (This preferred shackle positioning is why anchor makers always shape the shackle hole as an elongated slot; to allow the expanded ends holding screw pin to pass through). That setup will allow the shackle to rotate freely without levering apart the shackle or swivel forks, and will also allow the swivel to always be used in a straight pull position for full rated load.

Interesting. Do you have a picture, by any chance, to illustrate what you are indicating?
Thank you

If you look at the close-up photo, it's from Canada. This is one of the good ones!

This isn't mine, but if you search Google images for BENT ANCHOR SWIVEL you will come up with several, including this one.

Or this one

Mine was less severe and had not bent to the point of failure. But the fact it has bent was not comforting. It was easy to figure out what could happen in a blow under the wrong circumstance.... a weak link.

I might have it in my basement, buried somewhere in a bin.
